In the south, there seems to be an increasing population of wild feral hogs that are roaming the woods and countryside. They’re pretty common in Texas, but the one that was just found by trappers on the Gateway Hills Golf Course in San Antonio is a behemoth.

This feral hog that was wrangled by Wyatt Walton and his team at Lone Star Trapping was a whopping 411 pounds!

Many people like to look at these hogs as just oversized pigs in the wild but they can be dangerous. These hogs typically weigh in between 180 and 400 pounds but can be incredibly aggressive when they feel threatened. And their teeth and tusks are nothing to be messed with. That’s why the trappers used several traps and hunting dogs to take down this monster.

While this is a good catch for his group, Walton knows there’s a lot more work that needs to be done to keep people safe from these hogs. “The work isn’t done,” Walton wrote. “As San Antonio continues to flourish in population, there’s that much more native land having developments built on it. To accommodate the growth, native wildlife is just being pushed and pushed. Eventually, you end up having instances with human interactions, as [the animals] are just trying to survive.”

For reference, there an estimated 1.5 million feral hogs in the state of Texas and the damage that they cause to farmers and residential property could reach upwards of $400 million in damages each year. As for what will happen to this huge hog, Walton told some people on social media that he plans to mount the massive head on his wall.

So if you play golf in Texas often or if you live there in general, you may want to watch out for these wild hogs around your area. And who knows, maybe you’ll find yourself face to face with a big guy like this one next time you head to the tee box.
