While most of the focus on Tiger Woods this year is going to be on his performance in tournaments, Tiger is also still prominent in designing his own courses. And he just announced the next project that he will be undertaking.

It was announced this week that Tiger’s TGR Design firm has been contracted to design The North Course at the Mākaha Valley Resort on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. The TGR Design team will not be working by themselves on this project however, as they will be working in conjunction with Gil Hanse’s Hanse Golf Course Design who are are tabbed with designing The South Course.

Both groups are becoming giants in the course design business and the Makaha Valley Resort is happy to have them working on their course. “Through the creativity and ingenuity of both Tiger Woods and Gil Hanse, and the natural beauty of the Mākaha Valley, we will create one of golf’s finest and most sought-after destinations, and we look forward to sharing further details with the golfing world as the project develops,” said Pacific Links International owner Du Sha.

Woods seems incredibly excited about the opportunity to take on this project as well, stating that he believes the western coast of Oahu will provide him with the opportunity to create a challenging and memorable course in the Hawaiian islands. And while he anticipates creating a competitive course, he’s also said that he will ensure that the course is fun and enjoyable for players of all levels.

With this project in the works, Tiger will now have three concurrent projects as well as the two courses he’s already designed, Bluejack National in Texas and El Cardonal in Cabo. As for Hanse, this course will be one of many he’s already designed and renovated, including legendary courses at Pinehurst and Doral.

Hawaii certainly has a lot of golfing options for any tourist but this course looks like it could be one of the most spectacular when it’s done. There’s no timetable yet for when the design will begin or end but once finished, I’m sure there will be several players flocking to paradise to check it out.
