Even with all of the excitement that has taken place on the PGA TOUR circuit this year, the one constant has been Tiger Mania and his comeback season. But while fans are anxious to see Tiger tee up again, they may not get the chance for the next month.

Ever since winning the green jacket at Augusta this past April, the hype surrounding Tiger has hit levels that we haven’t seen in a decade. But that hype hasn’t resulted in any more victories for the most popular player on tour. He missed the cut at the PGA Championship in May and scraped his way to a T-21 finish at the U.S. Open this past week.

After those disappointing finishes, Woods looks ready to take some time off.

When asked when the next time fans would be able to see Tiger play, he said they may not see him unless they have a camera phone. Woods expressed his desire to take some time away for himself and his family before The Open Championship kicks off in a month. That doesn’t mean he won’t be playing, however, as he expects to play a few rounds in Florida in a more casual fashion.

“I think I’m going to take a little bit of time off and enjoy some family time,” Woods said. “It’s just trying to wind down from the championship as well as my lifts and getting back into it.”

Tiger also expressed that Florida weather is not going to be the same as playing across the pond but he’s excited to get back to Europe for The Open.

The Open is sure to be a challenge for Tiger as well because even though he has won the event on three separate occasions, Royal Portrush will only be hosting the event for the second time since 1951. That means that a familiarity factor will not be in play for one of the most veteran members participating in the event next month. But that goes for all participating in the final major of the year, making it a pretty even playing field.

The Open is set to take place July 18-21 and while betting favorites will be narrowed in the next few weeks, Woods is sure to be on the list. And that’s when we’ll see if Tiger’s layoff helps him win the final major of the season.
