Tiger Woods’s TGL Debut Ends with More Questions Than It Started With

Tiger Woods made his first appearance for Team Jupiter Links last night on TGL, the simulator golf league that he and Rory McIlroy have promoted for well over a year.

It ended with more questions than it started with, including concerns over his play.

Is Tiger Still a Competitor in Every Sense?

Tiger Woods was among the most cutthroat and hard-nosed competitors in all of professional sports. It seems that he has tempered expectations for himself and the fans as the years have gone on, but a question that comes to mind now is whether he is still a competitor in every sense.

Woods is still going to play and compete, but we are missing that old Woods that had the aching desire to win.

His injuries and age are definite concerns moving forward, but it seems as if there are more questions about whether he will even remotely compete with the world’s best at this point.

It’s hard to gauge from an exhibition match like TGL, but it seems his best is certainly behind him, of course. We’re not sure if he’ll ever truly challenge for a win in competition ever again.

He even admitted his game is not where it needs to be in order to compete.

We Have Yet to See a True Battle

Both weeks have been relatively lackluster in terms of overall competition. Both matches have been blowouts.

TGL has the early promise that everyone thought it would have. There is already speculation regarding a potential expansion of the league, but we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves.

For now, we need to see what the competition will look like with two teams that are truly competitive, where a putt or a challenging shot could be the difference.

Tiger’s Team is Just Bad

Kevin Kisner skulled a bunker shot into the flagstick in what was an early candidate for the funniest moment of the TGL season. On top of that, Max Homa was not on top of his game.

Tiger was himself, but a tempered version.

It is going to be interesting to see how seriously these players take this whole thing. Of course, they probably want to win, but it’s like you want to win the Turkey Bowl at your house on Thanksgiving. Is it more bragging rights?

Kisner has transitioned to more commentary and will be the lead analyst this year for NBC. Woods is battling injuries. Homa is perhaps the only true competitive force on the team currently.

We are hopeful some drama or some more tension between the two teams moving forward.
