Titleist Golf Balls: Which Model is Best for Your Game?
Titleist has a lineup of premium golf balls to fit every golfer’s game. The question is, which one is best for you?
Titleist has the most used golf ball on the PGA Tour in the Pro V1, but there are two other comparable models that both fit a variety of styles in the Pro V1x and the AVX, which have their own specific qualities that are ideal for ball flights and spin rates.
Lucky for me, Titleist sent over a dozen of each, and while I’ve been loyal to the Pro V1x for several years, it was nice to get my hands on the Pro V1 and the AVX. Ultimately, I made a change after my testing, which has resulted in a new ball in my bag that I plan to utilize for the year.
Pro V1
The Pro V1 is the pinnacle of golf balls. Everyone goes looking for their ball in the woods and feels like they hit the jackpot when they find a Pro V1, and there’s no secret as to why.
It has been the best-performing golf ball for several years, and that is essentially the reason it has been the most utilized ball on the PGA Tour for years. It helps with distance, ball flight, and spin rates, and is truly one of the most all-around favorites of golfers who have tried it.

Titleist says the Pro V1 offers “the greatest combination of speed, spin, and feel,” and they’re right. It has a softer feel, less spin, and a flatter trajectory than the Pro V1x, and is ideal for players who want longer distance and prefer a softer feel ball.
It features:
- Mid Flight Trajectory
- Maximum Short Game Spin
- Soft Feel
Its high gradient core helps enable lower long game spin and longer distances through higher speeds. Lower long game spin increases distance, while not sacrificing the precision needed to dial in your short game shots to hunt pins and lower your scores.
“I get that spin around the greens, but at the same time, I don’t sacrifice anything on the full shots,” Viktor Hovland said about the ball.

Pro V1x
The Pro V1x has been my choice for two years now. This offers a higher flight trajectory, while still offering short game spin, and a firm feel.
This is the ideal ball for those who need higher flight and more stopping power, which was honestly an issue I had with some clubs in my bag. While my short irons had a tendency to get high, my lower irons were a tad too low for my liking, and the Pro V1x helped increase the launch while keep long game spin relatively low.

The ball features:
- High Flight Trajectory
- Maximum Short Game Spin
- Firm Feel
In reality, while I prefer a softer-feel, the Pro V1x was a ball I simply played a little better with than the normal Pro V1. I sacrificed my ideal feel for something that I felt reacted to my game better.
AVX
Because of my tendency to stick with what works, I never really thought about trying the AVX. Titleist sending me a box of them truly was the only way I was going to give them a shot, because I would hate to spend $50 on a ball I absolutely hate.
It turns out, I should have been playing the AVX all along.

The AVX combines the soft feel with the high spin that I prefer with a golf ball on greenside shots. The ball still manages to keep long game spin down, and that soft feel is truly remarkable. It feels like hitting a marshmallow, and is ideal for those players who don’t have the club head speed to make a firmer ball feel quite as comfortable.
It features:
- Longer distance tee-to-green from a new large high-speed, high-gradient core
- New proprietary urethane cover increases greenside spin for improved short game control
- Upgraded thin high-flex casing layer lowers spin on long game shots
- New aerodynamic dimple pattern delivers a more piercing ball flight
Despite this ball’s low trajectory, it has truly become an ideal fit for my game. I have set aside time to work on getting my long irons up in the air, and have managed to make the changes necessary for that to happen. As a result, the AVX is the ball I will be playing for the foreseeable future.
You won’t sacrifice any of the spin you require on the greens. In my experience, the AVX is super responsive around the greens and on any shots from 150 yards and in. I feel like I can go right at pins with the 100-yard and closer shots, and getting this ball to bounce and stop where you want is as easy as it has ever been.

Loyalty Deal
Titleist is currently running a loyalty deal for its Pro V1, Pro V1x, Pro V1x Left Dash, or AVX, where you buy three and get the fourth dozen free. Customization is also included, as long as it is a single option.
