Titleist Launches New Vokey WedgeWorks A Grind Lob Wedge
Titleist is bringing forth a new grind with the WedgeWorks project from Vokey. The A Grind is a low-bounce lob wedge with a narrow, smooth sole that helps with turf interaction and high ball fight when playing from firm turf and bunkers.
A Grind wedges are available in 58 and 60-degree lofts and feature a Raw finish.
Why It Was Developed
Vokey rep Aaron Dill and U.S. Open Champ Geoff Ogilvy developed the A Grind out of the L Grind by removing the ribbon on the wedge and smoothing out the sole:
“I spoke with Geoff, and we got on the topic of Australian golf courses and how they compared to courses in America and around the world. I asked him some specific questions which resulted in an idea to design another lob wedge grind option that complemented the firm links-style conditions that players face – not just in Australia and Europe – but globally. Geoff has always been a low bounce player in his 60-degree, so I took his 60 L Grind wedge and removed the ribbon, resulting in a grind that moves through the turf quickly with very little resistance.”

This requires precise delivery at impact, just as other low-bounce, smooth-soled wedges do.
A Grind vs. L Grind
Titleist says the A Grind is technically made from the L Grind wedge, but it is smoothed out, and the ribbon on the sole and grind lines are smoothed out. Players who feel the ribbon hit or bounce off the turf with the L Grind would likely be more suitable for the A Grind.

Wyndham Clark’s A Grind Wedge
Major Champion Wyndham Clark also uses the A Grind lob wedge, sometimes in a 58 A bent to 59 degrees, or a 60 bent to 59 degrees.
Each loft option offers different bounce measurements, offering suitability for different lies.
Clark says:
“The most important club for me, probably in my bag, is this A grind. I’m able to – on tight lies, rough, wet lies, firm lies, whatever it is – hit the shot I want, and with the amount of spin I want, trajectory and everything.”

He used one at the 2023 U.S. Open, where he outlasted Rory McIlroy to win his first major. This was thanks to a crucial up-and-down on the 11th hole:
“[The turf] was so firm, and I knew with my wedge that I have that’s very low bounce, I knew I could hit the shot… It was an amazing shot. This was probably difficulty-wise, the hardest up-and-down I had all week, and I’d say probably the best up-and-down of my career.”
Availability and Pricing
The A Grind is available now at golf shops worldwide. and is priced at $225.
