Titleist, Vokey Roll Out New L Grind for Lob Wedges
Titleist and Vokey WedgeWorks are rolling out the newest version of The L Grind, one of their grind creations for lob wedges.
The L Grind is a “Tour-proven low bounce lob wedge” available in 58-degree and 60-degree lofts with 4 degrees of bounce. This specific grind is catered for players who play on tighter, firmer conditions. Seven of the eight top-10 players in the world use a bounce of less than six degrees, all of which are using a Vokey Design lob wedge.
L Grind
Titleist and Bob Vokey developed the L Grind for players who want a low-bounce option with heel, toe, and trailing edge relief for their short game. The leading edge of the wedge sits close to the ground, assisting with ball striking on tight and firm lies, whether the club face is square for bump-and-run or full-swing shots or open when players are getting the ball up in the air quickly.
With the leading edge already close to the playing surface, forgiveness is the L Grind’s biggest advantage.

Aaron Dill, Vokey’s Tour Representative, explains how the L Grind can help players gain more confidence in their shots due to the design:
“The L Grind is for the player looking for the versatility of a low bounce wedge. It’s really the perfect balance of ‘I want versatility, but I also want a little forgiveness to go with it.’ The forward bounce on the L helps reduce dig, but players are still able to open it up and slide under the ball easily. It’s a great option for players looking for a little bit less bounce.”
Tour-Proven Design
The L Grind is used by several top players on professional Tours, including:
- Brian Harman
- Max Homa
- Sungjae Im
- J.T. Poston
- Emily K. Pedersen
- Cameron Davis
- Michael Kim
Max Homa has used the L Grind to work out of a kink that presented itself in 2019. After using a 60.08M lob wedge, Max found himself struggling with contact on chips. Believing he needed more bounce, Dill told him he should try the L Grind:
“He came to me, and he said, ‘Hey, I feel like my bottom’s a little off.’ And he was thinking, ‘I need to increase the bounce to find my strike, feel a little more comfort, get a little more forgiveness out of this club.’ Reality was he had to go the other direction. He needed to go with less bounce because his club path was [delivering the sole into the turf] too early. So we switched him from M to L, and that cleaned up the delivery and he got to the ball a little bit faster with less resistance. That brought the launch down, increased the spin.”
Homa won the Wells Fargo Championship that week and has never taken the 60.04L Grind wedge out of his bag. He said the versatility of shots that came as a result of the L Grind helped him accomplish each of his six PGA TOUR wins:
“This wedge has never left me since then. I started being able to hit the low-flight, high-spin golf shot that you see all the really great chippers hit. And yeah, it’s not the way I thought about doing it. Had I gone into a ton of bounce, I was never going to hit that shot. I was going to hit a lot of okay shots and not a lot of good shots. And I started to hit a lot of good shots now.”
The L Grind Wedge from Titleist is available at golf shops worldwide and Vokey.com beginning today. It retails at $225.
