Tournament Preview: Ras al Khaimah Classic

Fitting that, not long after Groundhog Day, we’re back to the same course for the second time in a row this week on the DP World Tour.

Last week’s inaugural Ras al Khaimah Championship is followed by another new event in this week’s Ras al Khaimah Classic.

Event History

While this is a brand new tournament and there’s no current event history to speak of, we do have last week’s Championship and some Challenge Tour events to serve as a guide.

Dane Nicolai Højgaard simply overpowered the course last week with his driver en route to winning, driving the green on the par 4 first on Sunday to set up an opening birdie.

Drivers who can bomb it out there are a recurring theme of winners around here. Adri Arnaus won the Challenge Tour Grand Final here in 2018 and because he didn’t play last week as he opted to play the Saudi Invitational instead, it will be interesting to see how Arnaus gets on here this week.

Romain Langasque, Grant Forrest, Adrian Meronk and last week’s runner up Jordan Smith are just some of the other players who play this week and who’ve finished well here in the past.

The Golf Course

Designed by Peter Harradine, this 7,325 yard par 72 is a coastal course with exposed fairways in a desert environment.

However, there are a number of water hazards sprouted around the course that will pose a threat to players again this week at Al Hamra Golf Club.
