Traveler’s Championship | Fantasy Picks, Betting Odds, & Bets I LOVE This Week

The RBC Heritage was a fantastic tournament, but I was unable to convert my bets. My fantasy lineup didn’t perform terribly, as I was still in the green money wise, but definitely near the bottom of the money pool.

This week the Tour is headed to the north-east for the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands. The Connecticut stop has produced some great fields over the last few years, and this week is no different.

The course plays well to any type of golfer. Bombers can have a field day, but shorter hitters are also able to score well here as strategy does come into play often. Let’s go over some fantasy picks first.

Fantasy Picks

Top Tier

Bryson DeChambeau – $11,000 (DK)

I guess his strategy is working? Bryson has played great since returning to action, and has some pretty high finishes in the last few years at River Highlands. He tied 8th in 2019, and tied 9th in 2018. The combination of form, and recent history at the venue make him an easy pick, which has two downsides. He is going to be a popular pick with many fantasy owners this weekend, and his price is very high, second to only Rory. He’s a great play this week, but you will have to make up for him in the rest of your lineup.

Justin Thomas – $10,800 (DK)

Part of me thought he was going to pull it out on Sunday. He made the cut on the number, and was making a serious charge on Sunday to get to the top of the leaderboard. The only thing that stopped him was his slow start to the week. JT has a decent history in Connecticut, as he finished T-36 in 2019, and a T-3 in 2016. His other performances here weren’t great, but he showed great form over the weekend at Harbour Town.

Middle Tier

Collin Morikawa – $9,100 (DK)

Collin continues to make cut after cut, as he hasn’t missed one since being on Tour. This stat alone makes him a great choice every week for your fantasy lineup. Collin hit a semi speed bump last week at the RBC Heritage, after a final round 74 derailed another solid start. He played in this event last year, coming in a tie for 36th when a Saturday 75 was his only round in the 70’s. Collin finished solo 2nd two weeks ago at Colonial, and is still looking for his break-out win on Tour. This venue fits his game, and is a type of tournament he could win.

Paul Casey $8,900 (DK)

This will be his first start since February, but at this venue, Paul is a machine. He loves this place. In his 5 appearances, he hasn’t finished outside 17th, and has two 2nd place finishes along with 2 other Top-5s. Some may be worried about rust, but I’m taking him this week.

Bubba Watson – $8,800 (DK)

His final round last week was must-watch TV, as himself and Wesley Bryan had themselves a morning. What may have been overshadowed by this, was Bubba’s 65. He played great on Sunday, and now heads to a place where I guess you could say he’s had some success. He’s won this tournament 3 times, and that’s not to mention several other Top-5 finishes.

Other Picks

Matthew Fitzpatrick – $8,100

Matthew hasn’t missed a cut yet this season, going 10/10, and is coming off a fantastic performance at Harbour Town. He doesn’t have extensive history at this course, but his game fits well here and I’m looking for him to have another solid week.

Joaquin Niemann – $7,900

For a moment it looked like Joaquin was going to pick up his second victory on Tour, but a late bogey and a red-hot Webb Simpson got in his way and he finished T5. He also finished tied for 5th at the Travelers last year, and that combined with his form entering the tournament, I fully expect Niemann to give himself a shot at another trophy this week.

Brian Harmon – $7,600

This guy gets overlooked in every sense of the word. He’s coming off two very solid starts and seems to always be in the mix at the Travelers. He finished T8 in 2019 and T6 in 2018. He’s a guy you could use if you overload your lineup with star power and need to balance out the formula. I fully expect Brian to have another solid start at a track he has proven himself on.

I grew up in southern New Hampshire, where I first fell in love with the game of golf. I started by just going out and messing around with my buddies and focusing purely on having a good time! I never took golf seriously until I moved down to Tampa, FL to attend the University of South Florida. Go Bulls! At the start of my junior year I got a job working as a cart boy at a local private country club. This is when I started to focus on golf becoming my career. During the fall of my senior year, I turned from a 14 handicap, to a 2. I passed the PAT scoring test my first try and haven't looked back.
