TRENDING: High School Golfer Signs Endorsement Deal & Makes Pro Debut

When you look at the Official World Golf Rankings, it’s incredible that half of the guys in the top 10 are less than 30 years old: Brooks Koepka (29 years old), Justin Thomas (26), Jon Rahm (24), Patrick Cantlay (27), and Xander Schauffele (25).

But now imagine the possibility that someone less than 20 years old is making his Pro Debut, and could (theoretically) make the list before he turns 20.

17-year-old golf prodigy Akshay Bhatia confirmed earlier this week that he has signed a multi-year equipment contract with Callaway.  While the deal specifics have not been made public, it appears that Bhatia’s deal requires him to use a minimum of 13 Callaway clubs, as he was recently spotted at the 2019 Sanderson Farms Championship (more on that in a second) with a Callaway staffer bag filled with the Callaway Epic Flash Sub Zero driver, Callaway Epic Flash Sub Zero 3 Wood+, Callaway Apex MB irons (4 through 9), and the Callaway Mack Daddy 4 wedges (50°, 54°, and 60°).

Also worth noting is the relationship Bhatia shares with another new up-and-coming talent on the PGA Tour who’s been getting lots of attention recently: Matt Wolff.  Indeed, the young talents (among other pros like Adam Scott) share swing coach George Gankas, who has noted that Bhatia’s work ethic is “is stronger than anybody I’ve ever seen.”

Bhatia’s not wasting any time though.  Despite only announcing his deal with Callaway just a few days ago, Bhatia will also be making his pro debut this week at the 2019 Sanderson Farms Championship, where he’ll be competing with K.J. Choi, Austin Cook, Jason Dufner, Charley Hoffman, Zach Johnson, Lucas Glover, Aaron Wise, and Cameron Champ.

While the 2019-2020 PGA Tour season is just starting, it’ll be very exciting to see some of the new, young talent like Bhatia, Wolff, and Viktor Hovland not only handle themselves, but also handle the pressure of teeing up alongside some of the Tour’s best.

The 2019 Sanderson Farms Championship is being held from September 19th to 22nd at The Country Club of Jackson in Jackson, Mississippi.  You can follow the action on the PGA Tour App, or stream and watch live on PGA Tour Live or NBCSports.com.
