A couple weeks ago, Titleist teased us with the debut of the Titleist T100, 620 MB and 620 CB irons at the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach and, shortly thereafter, the T200 and T300 irons at the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.  Fortunately, dedicated golfers salivating over Titleist’s newest iron offerings don’t have to wait much longer, as the new Titleist iron lineup—all 5 models—will be available to fitters starting August 8th and available in golf shops worldwide beginning August 30th.

To start, the 620 MB and CB are, well, there’s no other way to say this, pure golf porn.

Immediately noticeable is that the MB and CB both have very minimalistic branding on the club heads.  Indeed, Titleist Josh Talge, Vice President of Titleist Golf Club Marketing, stated that:

One request we started to hear over and over from both pros and amateurs was to make MB as clean as possible.  Really the only way to do that was to remove any “MB” graphic, leaving only the Titleist script on the back of the club head. MB players know what an MB is, so that’s what we did.  It’s a simply stunning result.

And, if I may, this was a slam dunk decision.  The MB, and CB as well, looks incredibly clean and would fit perfectly on my wall or (if I had the skill level) in my bag.

Moreover, Titleist has kept in mind that lots of golfers have been considering combo sets so they can mix-and-match and have the best of both worlds.  Marni Ines, Director of Titleist Irons Development, said:

We’ve seen many MB players gravitate toward mixed sets particularly because that combination of performance and workability in the CB 3- and 4- irons is so compelling.  At the same time, with mixed sets becoming so common, we matched the profiles and blade lengths of 620 CB and MB so that players can start blending at any point in the set without making any sacrifices.

As a result, if you happen to be a more proficient golfer who’s interested in gaming blades but don’t want to punish yourself with a 4-iron butter knife, Titleist has made it possible for you to seamlessly combine a few long iron CBs with the MB scoring clubs.

With respect to performance, the CB features co-forged high-density tungsten in the 3- and 4-irons to maximize ball speed and forgiveness, along with a modernized cavity back design that delivers tour-proven trajectory and shotmaking with pure forged feel.

Meanwhile, the MB’s crown feature is its one-piece forging from 1025 carbon steel that delivers an unmistakable feel at impact.  Additionally, the MB also features a similarly technology-inspired muscle-back design to deliver a tour-proven ball flight with maximum shot and trajectory control.

For those of us not on the Tour, the AP-series has been one of the most well-known and successful irons introduced in the marketplace, and the T-Series looks to take Titleist’s irons to the next level.

Starting with the T100, Titleist’s set out with the goal to create a true players’ iron that offers confidence-inspiring looks and Tour-quality performance with signature Titleist feel.

Marina Ines said:

With T100 we wanted to build an iron that delivers incredible performance and perfectly suits the player’s eye.  This is a precision product.  It’s not about hitting it the furthest, it’s about hitting it that exact distance each and every time, being able to work the ball when necessary and having that pure look and feel that the best players in the world demand.

As a result, the T100 is packed with technology that supports distance and accuracy precision.  Specifically, the T100 features a new fully-forged dual cavity for precise distance and control, and a co-forged body that incorporates dual-density tungsten (with an average of 66 grams placed in the heel and toe of the mid and long irons) to deliver exceptional stability.

Appearance wise, the T100 is very clean and modern, but not a radical departure from prior Titleist irons that would turn off the traditionalists.

With respect to the T200 and T300, it’s important to note that both clubs will be powered by Titleist’s Max Impact Technology, which allows Titleist to make thinner, faster faces that squeeze every last MPH out of ball speed.  With Max Impact Technology, Titleist was able to ensure that the T200 and T300 both achieve certain target launch angles to deliver more consistent distances on every swing and, most importantly, stop on the green.  Notably, Titleist Golf Ball R&D helped develop Max Impact Technology’s unique polymer core that helps provide a more rewarding feel at impact and in harmony with the performance advantages of a thinner club face.

The T200 is the distance players irons, powered by a forged SUP-10 L-Face Insert.  Similar to the CBs and T100, the T200’s also features high-density tungsten in the heel and toe of the mid and long irons to create a low CG and achieve higher launch with stopping power.

Aesthetically, the T200’s features shorter blade lengths, thinner toplines and less offset, giving it an appearance much closer to a player’s iron than a “distance” club.

Finally, the T300 is the new player improvement iron that was designed for the golfer who’s looking for a high launching, long distance and forgiving set of irons.  Taking similar technology and design cues from the T200, the T300 features a mid-sized, cavity-back design, high-density tungsten in the heel and toe of the mid and long irons and Max Impact Technology.

As Talge said:

[The] T300 is the ultimate game improvement iron.  It goes high and far, it’s exceptionally playable and it looks great.  T300 has a higher MOI than our prior generation game improvement model for even more distance and forgiveness.  From address, you’d never believe how much technology is built into this iron.

To help package all the supportive tech, the T300 has a larger footprint, but that certainly doesn’t mean that the T300 is oversized.  Moreover, by incorporating progressive blade lengths, sole widths and hosel lengths into the design, the T300 delivers optimal CG positioning with preferred shaping through the set.

In sum, the new Titleist iron lineup has something for everyone.  Even better yet is that Titleist intentionally designed the different models for combo sets and, as a result, there’s no problem if you want to mix in a T100 long iron with your CBs and/or MBs, just like Justin Thomas.  Similarly, a T200/T300 setup is easily possible to help golfers get the ball in the air with the longer clubs that they might struggle with.

As mentioned above, the Titleist new 620 and T-Series irons will be available in golf shops worldwide beginning August 30th, with fittings beginning August 8th.  Pricing will range for the 620s, T100 & T200 from $175 (steel shafts) to $187.50 (graphite), while the T300s will range from $125 per club (steel shafts) to $137.50 (graphite).

Ever since golf became a competitive outlet, nothing brings Eric more joy than a well struck 4 iron.
