Jimmy Walker Wins 2014 Pebble Beach National Pro-Am

Our fantasy picks staff has plenty to boast about this morning.  Walker (1), Johnson (T2), Spieth (T4), and Mahan (6) were 4 of our top 5 picks to win this week in a tough field at the windy and rainy Pebble Beach.  Odds are, if you took our picks this week, you saw a massive bump in your fantasy league, with total purse winnings of  $2,368,575.

Some doubted our decision to demote Mickleson and Snedeker to the ranks of “Sleeper Picks,” wondering why we didn’t choose them as clear-cut favorites on a course they’ve dominated tournaments past. With Snedeker missing the cut and Mickelson falling to T19, it seems our doubts were confirmed.

Jimmy Walker stole the show for most of the tournament this week. Never losing the lead after first commanding it in the 3rd round, Walker did however make it interesting during the final stretch on Sunday.  With a 6-shot lead and 9 holes to go, Walker began to crumble, only ending up winning on a final 3-footer that he needed to drain to avoid a playoff.  After sticking his third shot on 18 with a long putt for birdie, Walker zoomed it 3-4 feet past the hole as the gallery gasped for a breath.  The putt finished Walker at -11, with Dustin Johnson and Jim Renner both at -10 awaiting the result in the clubhouse.

Jimmy Walker claims his third career win at AT&T Pebble Beach: Highlights

Check out all of the highlights from the final round of the 2014 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, where FedExCup points leader Jimmy Walker was able to hold onto his 54-hole lead to claim his third victory of the 2013-14 season. . The win gives Walker three victories in the new wrap-around season and a commanding  +757 point lead over Harris English in the FedExCup standings, where he has sat at No. 1 for a while now.  Walker now has a total of three professional wins to his credit, all coming in the last 5 months (Frys.com Open 10/13/13, Sony Open 1/12/2014, and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am 2/9/2014).

Dustin Johnson came in with a phenomenal final round -6 to finish one off the lead, moving up 4 spots to 4th place on the FedExCup standings.  In seemingly familiar fashion, Jordan Speith was bothered again by consistent putting woes.  The young sophomore again looked to be in control after Round 2, before crumbling a bit on the putting green.  The 20 year old still managed to finish T4 however, moving up another 5 spots of the FedExCup leaderboard to 14th.

Mickelson wasn’t a favorite of ours this week and he proved to the world why.  Overall “Lefty” looked a bit lost on a course he rarely struggles with.  It’s unclear whether or not his back is still giving him problems, but he missed a bunch of easy putts on his final stretch and never really regained his focus.

Be on the lookout for Walker, Spieth, Mahan, and Dustin Johnson next week at the Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club, and check back later this week for some more stellar Golficity fantasy picks, you’ll be glad you did!
