WATCH: College Golfer Dunks Push Cart and Clubs Into Water Hazard
University of Maryland freshman Karla Vazquez Setzer gave her pushcart, bag, and clubs an unintentional bath at the Landfall Tradition on Monday.
While playing the par-3 2nd at Country Club of Landfall, a gust of wind blew her push cart into a water hazard, submerging cart, clubs, and all.
@karlavs_ shoots 72 (E) during round one after high winds blow her golf bag into a lake. She’s currently T12 headed into the second round. 🌬️⛳
She went on to make BIRDIE the next hole!

Some quick-thinking patrons and volunteers acted swiftly, fishing out all but one club with bunker rakes (she lost her 9-iron) and Vazquez Setzer was able to finish her round.
After the drama, the first-year Terp birdied three of her next five holes showing some real grit and moxie.

Here’s a better look…@karlavs_ would birdie the next hole and three of her last seven after this incident. #OwnTheResponse (1/2) pic.twitter.com/POYuLseeWo

She ended up frying her phone and rangefinder in the ordeal, but I’d say the birdie barrage on the back nine to shoot even-par 72 eased the pain.
Kudos to her for being mentally tough enough to get the job done. Maybe the University of Maryland Athletic Department can spring for pushcarts with parking brakes next season…
