Watch: Franceso Laporta Takes on DP World Tour’s “The Five9 Challenge”
The DP World Tour came up with a splendid idea of having tour pros have a season-ending challenge amongst one another. The challenge is one player each week will hit a 9 iron five times to see how close they can get it to the pin.
The cumulative total will be taken and will be shown on top of a leaderboard of the remaining players for the ten total weeks and the players they are doing it for. This week was Franceso Laporta’s turn. Let’s see how he fared in the challenge.

Commanding Lead
Though Laporta wasn’t happy with his start being 24ft away from the hole on his 1st shot, he persevered, staying within 25ft on his following shots. He even stuffed one to 5ft to seal his lead by 27 feet over Thomas Detry.
Comparing the Tour Average
How did Franseco Laporta stack up against PGA Tour averages? Upon some research in 2022 on the PGA Tour, assuming that Laporta played from about this distance of about 150 yards since there isn’t an individual, the average was 28’ 6” for 150-175. This range was chosen because most tour players are able to hit their 9 iron between these yardages.
Though it was a small sample size, Laporta did quite well with a 17.2 average taking a 27-foot lead in the challenge!
