WATCH: Long drive Contestant’s Driver Shaft Snaps, Flies into Stands
Last night at the World Long Drive Championship, this happened:
How hard is Wes Patterson swinging?

That’s the shaft of Wes Patterson’s driver snapping and subsequently flying into the stands.
Here it is in slow-motion from another angle showing where the shaft actually went:
No Title
Snapped shaft and heads up!
Thankfully, no one was injured, but this could have been disasterous. You can see in the slow-motion video that the people in the stands never see the club head and shaft coming as their eyes are fixated on the golf ball down the fairway.
I’m thinking it might be time for some netting ala baseball to protect these spectators. Whoa.
