WATCH: U.S. Amateur Participants Try (and Fail) to Recreate Tiger Woods’ Iconic Shot at Hazeltine
With all of Tiger Woods’ iconic shots over the course of his legendary career, he revealed last year that his favorite came at a place that wasn’t very good to him overall.
Despite not winning the 2002 and ’09 PGA Championships at Hazeltine National in Minnesota, including losing after a 54-hole lead in 2009 for the only time in his career at a major, Woods recalls his fairway bunker shot with several trees blocking his way in ’02 as his favorite. He also fought through the wind to get the ball within 20 feet of the cup on his second shot, then sank the birdie putt.

This week, the U.S. Amateur took place at Hazeltine, and as part of the festivities the day before the event began, some participants were asked to recreate the shot.
Even with some of the trees Woods had to deal with no longer in play, most of the attempts didn’t go that well.
Remember Tiger’s shot from the @PGA‘s 2002 @PGAChampionship? He said he has “never felt contact that solid” in his life.

While some made it out of the sand on the fly, it appears that none of the attempts landed on the green, which gives some perspective as to how great Woods’ shot truly was.
