WELL YOU’RE FIRED: Is This the Biggest Caddie Mistake Of All Time?
There are so many rules in the game of golf that I don’t know. Little things that can work for you or in this case against you. On the 18th hole during the US Amateur one players caddie made a mistake that will go down as one of the biggest caddie blunders of all time.
It all came down to the 18th hole.
And then this happened.
The outcome? A 1 up win for Tyler Strafaci. #USAmateur pic.twitter.com/JFJcoSKfFQ

Segundo Oliva Pinto was planning on hitting his 3rd shot from a green side bunker when his caddie went into the bunker to check the sand. I’m not a big rules guy but I know that this is a big ‘no no’. Pinto didn’t see him do this but one person did. His opponents caddie who also happens to be his dad, called over a rules official. The caddie in question said he didn’t touch the sand but it’s on camera.
Well, that’s one way to lose a US Amateur match––when your caddie tests the sand on the 18th hole. pic.twitter.com/nLRogW3onD

It was determined that the caddie DID in fact (blatantly) touched the sand and as a result, Segundo Oliva Pinto lost the hole and the match. It absolutely sucks for Pinto who was playing in his firs US Amateur and lost due to something he couldn’t control. I don’t know what that caddie was thinking and I definitely can’t imagine how he feels right now.
I feel bad for both guys in this situation I’m sure he wasn’t trying to lose his guy the match but what’s done is done.
