Here’s How Much Rory McIlroy Won at the Wells Fargo Championship
Rory McIlroy captured his fourth title at the Wells Fargo Championship this past weekend at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina. He took home a trophy and a pretty nice paycheck.
The $20 million total purse meant there was plenty of dough to be made for the golfers who made the cut and placed well just a week ahead of the PGA Championship.
There were plenty of big names atop the leaderboard, including McIlroy, who has had plenty of success at the Wells Fargo and Quail Hollow:
“Quail Hollow, Charlotte in general, has been really good to me over my career, and this is just another great day to sort of add to all the rest of them. I feel like these people have sort of watched me grow up from winning here as a 20-year-old to being at the ripe old age of 35 now. They’ve sort of seen my progression throughout my career, and I’ve been lucky enough to win here four times. The support that I get here is absolutely amazing.”
I love coming to Quail Hollow. I love the people, the golf course and of course the winning😁 Thank you to the staff and fans for all the support this week and over the years. pic.twitter.com/1xVVgr8CGI

McIlroy did not enter the final round with the lead. Xander Schauffele had a one-shot advantage over the Northern Irishman going into Sunday, which made things especially interesting considering how well both play. However, Schauffele has had trouble finishing tournaments and has not won since the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open.
But it was not as if Schauffele, an Olympic Gold Medalist, did not put up a fight. McIlroy needed to make several key putts on the front just to stay within striking distance. He then fired a 32 on the back nine, including a double bogey on 18 and two eagles to walk away with it.
It was his 26th PGA Tour win.
