WGC FedEx St. Jude Classic | Fantasy Picks, Betting Odds, Bets I Love This Week

After a week that featured one of the weakest fields of the year, the Tour heads to Memphis for the WGC FedEx St. Jude Classic where the lineup is stacked. Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Brooks Koepka, and new World No. 1 Jon Rahm will all tee it up Thursday.

Due to all the schedule changes forced by COVID-19, this WGC will play as a warm-up for the year’s first major, as the PGA Championship at Harding Park is next week. Aside from the loaded field, one obvious name is missing. Tiger Woods will not play, in hopes of resting his body to be ready for the PGA. TPC Southwind will play as a 7,200 yard, Par 70 for the boy this week. Let’s take a look at some fantasy picks.

Top Tier

Rory McIlroy – $11,200

Rory hasn’t put together 4 rounds of golf yet, and is still finding a way to compete. He had a T11 finish in Connecticut, and a T32 at the Memorial (derailed any chances with a Sunday 78). Rory took a week off from the 3M to try and fine-tune all aspects of his game. With a major just a week away, and how due he is to win one, I feel that Rory is extra motivated to get into form over the next few weeks. Also finished T4 last year, after losing his 54 hole lead.

Bryson DeChambeau – $11,000

This pick is purely based on distance. Let’s look at the last few years of this tournament. Last year, the final group was Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka. 2018, Dustin Johnson won. Being able to hit the ball a long way at this course is an advantage, so we will see what Bryson does this week.

Middle Tier

Daniel Berger – $9,600

Aside from a MC at the Memorial, Daniel has a win and a T3 since the restart. On top of that, he’s won at this golf course twice before. I always talk about form and history, and that’s what Daniel has this week.

Matthew Fitzpatrick – $9,000

Another guy with form and history. At Muirfield, Fitz has a T27 finish at the Workday, and grinded for a solo 3rd at the Memorial. Last year, he finished in a tie for 4th with Rory McIlroy and others. Not sure if having Bones on the bag had anything to do with his last few starts, but I like Matty this week.

Other Plays

Max Homa – $7,200

Was my reach pick last week, and he almost got the win. He put Twitter away for a few weeks, and now is back to competing on Tour. Max is one of those guys that’s so easy to root for, so I’m going to until he gives me a reason not to. Let’s go Max!

I grew up in southern New Hampshire, where I first fell in love with the game of golf. I started by just going out and messing around with my buddies and focusing purely on having a good time! I never took golf seriously until I moved down to Tampa, FL to attend the University of South Florida. Go Bulls! At the start of my junior year I got a job working as a cart boy at a local private country club. This is when I started to focus on golf becoming my career. During the fall of my senior year, I turned from a 14 handicap, to a 2. I passed the PAT scoring test my first try and haven't looked back.
