Willy Wilcox Details Battle With Addiction While On The PGA TOUR
In 2016 Will Wilcox set the PGA world on fire with an ace on the famous 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass. He quickly became one of the fan favorites that many fans loved rooting for.
So what happened to him? He showed up one day and started playing very well in events, then suddenly, he was gone? He had to WD from the FedEx playoffs due to a wrist injury, but that couldn’t have been why he fell off the tour.
If you guessed it was something much darker, you would be right.

“I Was a Drug Addict With a PGA Tour Card,” said Wilcox in an interview written by Mark Baldwin. What looked like a charmed life on the PGA tour was, in reality, a constant quest to fill his addictions.
Willy said:
“I made millions of dollars playing on professional golf’s biggest stage and blew a significant percentage of those winnings on drugs… All of these things happened without almost anyone knowing.”
The article goes on in detail to give some background on Will’s secret life outside the ropes.
.@willwilcoxgolf took his first “birdie pill” when he was 15, for the next 20 years he abused heroin, Oxycoton, and Percoset. Somehow, despite his addiction, he made it to (and stayed on) Tour. @markbaldwin1 tells his journey and the fight to stay cleanhttps://t.co/8eWe9Sk9xz

Will is currently sober, and he’s beginning a comeback of sorts. He’s already in pursuit of qualifying for the US Open and rejoining his brothers on the PGA Tour.

I can’t urge you enough to read the article link above. His story is incredible, and he honestly shouldn’t be alive to tell it. He’s on a path now to inspire others to overcome their demons. I wish him nothing but luck in his journey to recovery.
Making it to the PGA Tour again would be a cool story too but some things are bigger than golf.
