Zhang & Bae Battle In Playoff at Augusta National Women’s Amateur
It has been a wild week for the women participating in the ANWA, but an exciting and record-breaking one at that. From 15-year-old Gianna Clemente being the youngest to make the cut in tournament history to Rose Zhang breaking the single-round scoring record two days in a row (65). To note, Clemente finished T-14th, an impressive debut, to say the least. All concluded today with a playoff even though Zhang had a 5-shot lead going into the final round, it goes to show no lead is safe at Augusta National.
Zhang just was able to sneak into a playoff after a round of 76 today. The field overall wasn’t able to attack Augusta National, with only three players in red figures in their final-round scores. One of those who forced a playoff was Jenny Bae. She started the day 6 shots off of the lead but turned in the best round of the day, as did Saki Baba. However, in the end, the playoff was between Rose Zhang and Jenny Bae.

The playoff began on hole 18 between Zhang and Bae, which both players recorded par. So the two young ladies moved to the 10th hole to determine a winner in a sudden-death-playoff. Zhang was able to cozy her birdie putt right next to the hole to secure her par and the victory in her 4th appearance.
It was only a matter of time before she sealed the deal, as she finished no worse than the 17th. Congratulations to all the players that competed and had the opportunity to play in this special tournament.
