After Belgian Thomas Pieters’s win last week in Abu Dhabi, the newly formed DP World Tour moves on to the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic.

Unlike last week’s event where we were introduced to a new course on Tour in Yas Links, this week sees a return to a familiar destination — the Majlis course at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai.

Rolex Series

This is the second of five Rolex Series events this calendar year on the DP World Tour and there’s another $8 million prize pool up for grabs along with 8,000 DPWTR points.

The next Rolex Series event doesn’t come around until the Genesis Scottish Open in early July, so players will be highly motivated to win and position themselves nicely in the Race to Dubai early in the year.

Event History

With the exception of 1999 and 2000, this tournament has been held at the Emirates Golf Club since 1989 and has a long history of illustrious winners.

Seve Ballesteros has won here (1992), Ernie Els is a three time winner (1994, 2002 & 2005), Tiger Woods is a two time winner (2006 & 2008), Rory McIlroy has won twice (2009 & 2015), with other winners including Sergio Garcia (2017) and Bryson DeChambeau (2019).

The Golf Course

The course was the first completely grassed championship golf course in Dubai, designed by Karl Litten and opened in 1998.

It’s a classical course with plenty of dog legs which means strategy and good course management will be key.

This is backed up the fact that, historically, hitting greens is a key statistic for any winner.

With another stellar week in prospect at a fantastic course, check back tomorrow for some betting tips for the week ahead.
