As expected, the battleground for the fight between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf has been in the courts in recent weeks, but even those who anticipated legal drama probably could not have predicted this one.

That’s right—Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, along with PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, have been subpoenaed in the aftermath of last week’s players-only meeting that Woods was said to be the catalyst of.

Monahan gets involved in the story thanks to Wednesday’s announcement of the PGA Tour partnering up with Woods and McIlroy’s TMRW Sports group to form the TGL—a made-for-primetime series that will begin in January 2024 and feature six teams of three PGA Tour stars playing for big money.

Many believe that sounds similar to the model adopted by LIV Golf earlier this year. In fact, it sounds too similar for LIV’s tastes, which is why the group wants details of the players-only meeting to be revealed in court.

“It is believed that discussions occurred which are alleged… to be anti-competitive and violative of the antitrust laws vis a vis the LIV Golf Tour and its players,” a press release states on behalf of LIV Golf.

Lee Westwood, one of the golfers who went from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf this year, echoed that sentiment.

“I laugh at what the PGA Tour players have come up with,” Westwood told Golf Digest. “It’s just a copy of what LIV is doing. There are a lot of hypocrites out there.”

Woods’ deposition is set for Sept. 21, McIlroy’s is scheduled for Sept. 22, and Monahan’s will be on Sept. 27.
