OWGR (Temporarily) Halting LIV World Ranking Points
News broke yesterday that LIV entered into a strategic alliance with the MENA Tour, which would finally start providing LIV golfers with Official World Golf Ranking points that they’ve desperately needed.
The OWGR, however, is temporarily slamming the brakes on this plan.

OWGR is claiming that they were not provided sufficient notice to analyze the proposed changes caused by the MENA-LIV partnership, chiefly among which being that while MENA had previously instituted cuts after 36 holes, LIV—as its detractors are quick to point out—does not have any cuts whatsoever.
Consequently, the two fast-approaching LIV events—Bangkok (Oct. 7th through 9th) and Jeddah (Oct. 14th through 16th)—will not be awarding competitors with OWGR points.

While this is certainly a setback for LIV, it is becoming more and more apparent with each day that passes that LIV is not going anywhere.
Instead, we can anticipate that LIV golfers will have a much stronger chance at being eligible to compete in future events, such as the 2024 Majors, should OWGR points be awarded in future LIV events.

The question, of course, becomes even if OWGR points are awarded, will points be de minimis and, thus, prevent even LIV’s No. 1 golfer (Cam Smith?) from amassing enough points to qualify for any non-LIV tournaments?
