Golf’s first foray into the “silly season” that has everyone wondering which big names will be heading from the PGA Tour to rival upstart LIV Golf has put Xander Schauffele through the spin cycle.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the 2020 Olympic gold-medal winner would be heading to LIV with best friends Patrick Cantlay and Mito Pereira.

Brian Wacker, who currently writes for the New York Post and is a former Golf Digest reporter, says that Schauffele will be staying put on the PGA Tour.

What that means for Cantlay and other golfers rumored to jump is unclear. Cantlay, the 2021 FedEx Cup champion, is a frequent playing partner of Schauffele, winning the Zurich Classic of New Orleans last year and teammates at the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup.

As part of the tweet, Wacker also reported that around five events will be televised on Fox Sports next year—presumably through the FS1 cable channel, per an earlier report.

He also insinuated that the status of certain golfers, the television deal, or both could change if LIV Golf is able to start accumulating Official World Golf Ranking points.
