Can These Stickers Improve Your SkyTrak?

About a year ago, I got my SkyTrak. I live in the Midwest, and once winter hits, it’s six months before we get to hit a ball outside again. Wanting to keep my game sharp and continue my quest for improvement, the SkyTrak was a perfect fit for me. I can easily move it out of the garage so my wife can park inside and still setup my home simulator with minimal effort.

After getting everything connected and setup, I was contacted by justapotamusdesigns regarding a simple question. Was I interested in testing their new product for SkyTrak?

You see, these guys are the same people who make the dots used for Trackman and Mevo so they have experience in the golf simulator world. They had come up with a product that was intended to give better, more accurate readings on your SkyTrak. It’s just a simple sticker that goes on the ball, but they needed some to test it.

I came up with what I felt was the best possible test based on my abilities at the time and what I had available. I have the game improvement package so this allowed me to build a skill assessment that would track all the stats we needed. I built the following test.

  • 10 shots with a 60-degree wedge
  • 10 shots at a 100-yard target
  • 10 shots at a 150-yard target
  • 10 shots with driver

I would get a baseline going first by running this test with a brand-new, clean golf ball. I set the ball down with the brand logo facing the SkyTrak and ran through the test. I then repeated the test with the same brand and model of ball but this time, I used the stickers. Each test had a brand new ball from the same sleeve to minimize as much variation as possible. Here is how the test played out.

I’m not a fitter or a professional by any means. I’m an average golfer who hovers between a 10 to 15 index. My biggest weakness is driver and as you could see in the video, the day I tested these stickers that was no exception. I feel I’m a decent wedge player for my abilities, and those were the clubs that this test was more focused on. I found that the balls that were struck better (ignoring the shots that had been hit poorly) had much better spin numbers on the balls with the sticker versus the balls without it. It wasn’t as noticeable on the 150-yard shot, but it did bring on the occasional solid result.

The driver test was basically useless because I hit it so badly, you can’t trust those numbers. One question you may have is, “why not just use a sharpie?”  I had that question, too and the answer is that the sharpie will wear off and definitely leave ink stains on your impact screen if you have one. The stickers will simply fly off with no damage to your very expensive impact screen.

I believe that if a player is looking to stretch out every bit of their SkyTracks abilities and they really want to know their exact spin numbers while on a budget, then these stickers are worth a try. A pack of 100 stickers is only $9, and they can be found on their website

For the price and minimal effort needed, these little stickers are worth a try, especially if you’re stick inside during the winter months.
