John Daly, 1991 Winner, Withdraws From This Year’s PGA Championship
John Daly, the 57-year-old cult favorite, will not participate in this year’s PGA Championship.
It was announced on Monday that Daly withdrew from the event that starts Thursday at Oak Hill in Rochester, New York. He will be replaced by Stephan Jaeger.
Daly plays sparingly on the PGA Tour. He’s missed the cut in the two events he’s entered this year. Due to winning the PGA Championship in 1991, he has an exemption into both this event and the Open Championship, which he won in 1995.
Last year, Daly started both majors out well, shooting a 72 at Southern Hills and 73 at St. Andrews. But he had difficulty on Friday in both tournaments and missed the cut.
He’s also played five events on the PGA Tour Champions this year, where he recently celebrated his birthday.

The last time Daly made a cut at a PGA Tour event was a 65th in the 2018 Corales Punta Cana Championship. He did, however, win the PNC Championship with his son John Daly II in 2021, outdueling Tiger and Charlie Woods in the exhibition family event.

We also heard last year that a biopic will be made on Daly’s colorful life, with Jonah Hill cast as the folk-hero golfer.
