Another Tough Break for LIV Golf Stars as Players Withdraw From Olympics

In addition to making it difficult to qualify for majors, LIV Golf members are having a hard time getting into another prestigious tournament this year: the Olympic Golf tournament at the 2024 summer games in Paris.

The rankings for the Olympics tournament mirror the Official World Golf Rankings, and players do not earn any points for LIV Golf events.

Players can earn points through majors, but there’s a limit of four players per country for the 60-man field. Given the number of players from countries like the United States, England, and South Africa who would be difficult to surpass in the rankings, a number of LIV stars have withdrawn from consideration.

This includes PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka, Englishman Tyrrell Hatton, and South African Louis Oosthuizen. In the meantime, other stars are hanging on to their spot.

As of right now, representatives from the U.S. team would be Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, Xander Schauffele, and Patrick Cantlay. Schauffele won the gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Games, which was held in the summer of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s men’s Olympic tournament will be Aug. 1-4 from Le Golf National in Paris. The Open de France on the DP World Tour is held there annually. Last year, it was won by Ryo Hisatsune from Japan.

Year-round golf is a perk of living in Florida, where Chris moved from his native New York shortly after graduating from college. Chris has played some famous courses in the state, including Bay Hill in Orlando and Innisbrook in the Tampa Bay area, and next on his to-do list is the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass to take a crack at the famous island hole.
