Scottie Scheffler has officially released a statement following his arrest outside of Valhalla Golf Club at the PGA Championship.

Scheffler was arrested and booked with four different charges this morning, including one felony, which was 2nd Degree Assault of a Police Officer.

Scheffler released the following statement on his Instagram:

“This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers.  It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do.  I never intended to disregard any of the instructions.  I’m hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today.   “Of course, all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest sympathies to the family of the man who passed away in the earlier accident this morning.  It truly puts everything in perspective.”

This morning, a shuttle carrying fans to the event struck a pedestrian, who we now know was a vendor worker at the PGA Championship. Unfortunately, it was fatal.

Scheffler was navigating traffic outside of Valhalla when officers reportedly instructed him to stop.

According to reports, he attempted to make his into the course for his Friday morning tee time when an officer “grabbed Scheffler’s arm to pull him out of the vehicle,” according to ESPN. He was then put in handcuffs and booked.

ESPN‘s Jeff Darlington was near Scheffler when he was in handcuffs and attempted to talk to officers:

Scheffler has arrived at Valhalla and was on the range hitting balls, and will tee off at 10:08 a.m. with Brian Harman and Wyndham Clark.

Scheffler is T11, at -4, five back of leader Xander Schauffele.
