Caddies Better Watch Out for MGI Golf’s Ai Navigator GPS+

Playing Through: I want to walk my rounds more; it’s healthier, allows you to have more control over pace, and gives you the opportunity to really take in being outdoors. The problem is I’m always burnt out before hitting the back 9. The MGI Ai Navigator GPS+ resolves these issues, and with extra features like its 4” color touchscreen GPS, it enables me to play my best golf. Is the price a little steep? Yes, but when you factor in the health benefits and savings (no more cart or caddie fees), the Ai Navigator makes a compelling case for your best golf purchase in recent.

One of the biggest drawbacks or deterrents of walking is carrying your bag. Between a full set of clubs, backup balls and gloves, water, and some Uncrustables, you can unintentionally be burdened with lugging an extra 15 pounds around the course. And since regularly playing with a caddie isn’t viable or cost-effective for the significant majority of us, we’re largely “forced” into paying for golf carts.

The MGI Golf Ai Navigator GPS+ resolves all of these issues; never again pay for a golf cart or caddie and, instead, enjoy the health and relaxation benefits of walking the course. And that’s because the Ai Navigator isn’t your normal push cart. Indeed, despite being just as compact as your mainstream options, the Ai Navigator features twin, quiet electric motors powered by a battery that’s rated for 36 holes.

Never again do you have to worry about pushing your clubs up holes like Bethpage Black’s par-4, 15th hole, which looks like a cliff and doubles as a sledding hill during the offseason. Nope, with the included remote control (which easily fits in your pocket or on your belt), you can now take the easy walk up the hill while steering the Ai Navigator directly to your ball and from over 110 yards away so it’s waiting for you like your caddie. And just like the best caddies, the Ai Navigator is also equipped with a 4” full-color, touchscreen GPS—equipped with over 40,000 courses worldwide—that will clearly display the distances to every point and hazard on the golf course.

As you can safely presume from everything I’ve already said, my experience with MGI Golf’s Ai Navigator GPS+ was a golfer’s dream, especially when I brought it to the local NY testing ground: Bethpage Black. As many of you may know, the Black Course—much like Pinehurst’s No. 2, Bandon Dunes, Whistling’s Straits Course and countless other top-tier golf courses—is walking only. So without a caddie or a pushcart, you’re stuck carrying your golf bag over the 7,000+ yards of rolling Farmingdale hills. And as you can safely imagine, when I normally play the Black Course (regardless if carrying or using a push cart), I am running on fumes when I get to the (more demanding) back nine. But with the Ai Navigator, I can safely say that I had the most energy throughout the round.

But let’s start with unboxing the Ai Navigator. Despite the fact that there’s some assembly required, you could honestly build the Ai Navigator in the parking lot before your round if it wasn’t for the fact that the lithium battery needs a few hours to be fully charged. Once it’s assembled, regularly using the Ai Navigator becomes a simple part of your pre-round routine. Indeed, while I drive a mid-sized sedan (approximately 57 cubic feet of trunk space), the Ai Navigator is easily loaded into the trunk and fits alongside my golf bag without having to fold down my rear sets or remove my metalwoods to ride passenger in the front seat.

After arriving at the course, you unload the Ai Navigator, lock the wheels into the motors, and turn on the battery. While you’re loading up your bag, the Ai Navigator’s GPS will come to life and start looking to pair with satellites and confirm your location. Once everything is fully loaded, the work is over, and it’s time to have fun. With a simple click of the speed control button or remote control, the Ai Navigator is off to the races, first tee, or driving range.

On the course, the Ai Navigator is everything you need and more. With the remote, you can have it trail you while walking the course or use it like a forecaddie and have it rush up to where you last saw your ball. Likewise, as you start to approach the green, you can “call” it back to you to grab your putter or wedges and then direct it towards the next tee box.

During the round, the GPS screen automatically updates distances and hole displays as you move around to—like a caddie—provide you with all the information you could need before confidently lining up that next shot.

After playing a few rounds at the course with the hardest walk local to me (Bethpage’s Black Course), the Ai Navigator makes a compelling case to become my newest golf purchase. As briefly mentioned above, I can honestly say that I have never had more energy after a Black Course round. By being able to load up the Ai Navigator with my golf bag, water, snacks, etc., all of which I could call upon with the remote control, I was able to just walk and hit my shots.

No, the Ai Navigator can’t guarantee that I’d play my best, but I was always prepared for each and every shot, as I never had to dig through my bag for my rangefinder or GPS and, moreover, had access to every club in my bag. But then again, that’s not necessarily the point. As an amateur, my goal should always be to find ways to find more enjoyment from golfing—I mean, I pay to play this incredible game. And with that goal in mind, the Ai Navigator is a “hole in one.”
