Mother nature has provided us with amazing events that have struck around golf courses this year. This time, she may have hit a little too close for comfort.

Silverado Resort played host to the first official event of the PGA TOUR season this past weekend and was well attended by fans from around the globe. Fans and players alike watched Brendan Steele take the first victory of the 2017-2018 season and left believing that he would be the hottest thing they saw all week. Enter the fire that happened only a few hours after the match concluded.

On Monday morning, the Silverado Resort was forced to be evacuated because of a fire that was raging close to and eventually on the grounds of the golf course. As was reported by locals around 2 a.m. the fire was passing through wine vineyards and was heading for the 5th hole and the driving range. It’s unknown how many players or fans were still in the area but no serious injuries have been reported.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the fire was one of the several wildfires in the Napa area. “Several massive wildfires burned out of control in Napa and Sonoma counties early Monday, destroying an untold number of homes and businesses, forcing the evacuation of many thousands of people and shutting down major roadways as firefighters sought to halt the advance of infernos that were driven by powerful winds,” as told by the newspaper.

The photos of this event are amazing to view while also showing how serious and intense this blaze was. This isn’t even the first time that a wildfire has been the main story on a golf course this year. There were also the raging wildfires in Oregon a few months ago that were incredibly visible from golf courses right across the Washington state line where players continued to tee up.

Luckily, this fire didn’t start in the middle of the Safeway Open, creating a frenzy surrounding the first tournament of the year. And hopefully, all players and fans were able to escape the blaze before it took over the countryside.
