Love or hate his approach to the game, the science of golf is working for Bryson DeChambeau.
In just his second full season on the PGA TOUR, the Californian now has three titles to his name – including last week’s The Northern Trust, leads the FedExCup standings and has all but confirmed his spot in the US Ryder Cup team.
Bryson did things the hard way, having been photographed having a mini meltdown at the British Open as his swing deserted him.
But with physics, geometry and science on his side, we knew it wouldn’t be long before the 24-year-old was back in the winner’s circle.
The 2018 FedExCup is now down to its top 100 players for this week’s Dell Technologies Championship, which remember takes place from Friday-Monday to coincide with the Labor Day celebrations.
There’s just 70 places available at next week’s BMW Championship, so expect some to make a big move in Boston; Hideki Matsuyama (58), Ryan Moore (60), Daniel Berger (63), Jimmy Walker (68), Matt Kuchar (74) and Charley Hoffman (75) are all in differing degrees of danger of missing out.
And when making your draft, it may just be worth having in mind that the Dell Technologies Championship is the last event where the European players can earn Ryder Cup points.
Finally, for fans of omens, three of the past five champions at TPC Boston have actually gone on to win the FedExCup that year. Will it be four in 2018?

With such a stacked field DeChambeau largely flew under the radar last week but with the win he jumps up to an $8,700 price tag on DraftKings this week.

The 2018 Dell Technologies Championship Field
Nearly all of the top-100 will duke it out at TPC Boston, with Francesco Molinari the only player in the mix set to miss out.
Rory McIlroy, Wyndham Championship winner Brandt Snedeker, and Henrik Stenson, who holds the joint 72-hole record here, all make their FedExCup bows after varying injury problems.
The scrabble for points means there’s battles worth keeping an eye on throughout the leaderboard. Kevin Streelman is the current bubble-boy at 70 in the standings, with Tyrrell Hatton in 71st having plenty of motivation to break into the field next week and secure a berth in the Ryder Cup team.
Unless they produce a monumental performance, the Dell Technologies Championship could be the last event of the season for Kevin Chappell (88), Branden Grace (91), Russell Knox (93), Russell Henley (96) and Jason Dufner (100).

This Week’s Course Preview
TPC Boston will host the Dell Technologies Championship for the final time this week.
Following a year off in 2018, the venue will return to the Tour in 2020 as it takes up hosting duties of the Northern Trust.
The Par 71 layout, which plays at 7,342 yards, was originally designed by Arnold Palmer, with a remodel from Gil Hanse and Brad Faxon following in 2007. The changes haven’t affected the winning score required, however, with Stenson carding the joint-best of -22 in 2013 and the last three champions getting over the line in -17, -15 and -15.
It’s not a difficult track for the pros – Justin Thomas made just two bogeys in his 2017 outing – nor is it one with many distinguishing features, although there have been changes of late. The fourth hole is now a driveable Par 4, the twelfth has been increased by 50 yards and the eighteenth was modified to try and make the closing stretch more difficult. The green has been halved in size and elevated, but even so it still remains one of the easiest holes on the layout.
The Bentgrass greens will run quickly at around 12 on the stimpmeter, while the rough is fringed with thick fescue grass.

Weather Forecast for Norton, MA
It’s a week of two halves in Norton, Massachusetts.
From Monday to Wednesday, the forecast suggests its going to be very hot – up to 97 degrees in fact – with lots of sunshine.
But those predictions suggest something of a change in time for the first tee on Thursday. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to sweep in through the morning, bringing heavy rain and a noticeable downturn in temperature – with the mercury falling to 75 degrees.
Things should improve on Friday and Saturday, with sunny spells and cloud and wind speeds of around 10 mph.
On Sunday there is the possibility of further rain showers, which could soften conditions in time for a titanic finale.
Last Year’s Results from The Dell Technologies Championship
A weekend blitz from Justin Thomas was enough to fire him to a fifth win of a stellar 2017 campaign.
He opened with a fairly average 71-67, but accelerate from there with a stunning 63 on Saturday which propelled him up the leaderboard to a share of the 54-hole lead with Marc Leishman.
Thomas posted a pair of birdies in the final seven holes on a fraught Sunday to take the title by three shots from Jordan Spieth, who had thrown the tournament wide open with a birdie-eagle-birdie-birdie start on the final day.
Leishman had to settle for a share of solo third, with Jon Rahm and Paul Casey rounding out the top five.

Where to Play Fantasy Golf for The Dell Technologies Championship this Week
We’re edging into the meat of the FedExCup playoffs, and that is reflected in the quality and diversity of DFS contests available this week.
- PGA $700k Champ Series: With this series gamers have two choices: the ‘Mini’ event, which offers a $100k top prize for $6 entry, or the ‘Medium’ where you can clinch the same top prize but in a smaller field and with a $44 entry.
- PGA $50k Albatross: Another budget option is this single entry contest, where a top prize of $5k can be yours in a field featuring less than 5,000 players.
This Week’s Fantasy Notes for The Dell Technologies Championship
It would appear as if what you do off the tee at TPC Boston is almost irrelevant: Justin Thomas gave it a fair go 12 months ago, but only found 59% of fairways, so even with the fescue rough it is possible to retrieve the situation.
Don’t forget that the likes of Henrik Stenson, Billy Horschel and Steve Stricker have done well here too, so arguably being short off the tee is not an insurmountable obstacle.
As ever, Greens in Regulation is a key stat – Thomas found 71%, which hints at how well he scrambled – and in an ideal world finding the right portion of these fast, undulating surfaces helps.
As you might expect, putting is key on slick Bentgrass greens, and 10 of the last 12 champions have ranked inside the top-10 for Putting Average. Thomas ranked 12th last year, and so a hot flat stick is a good guide.
You could argue that TPC Boston is a ‘finisher’s course’, where a strong putting show, allied to scrambling and chipping, is key.
We really are into the meat of the season, where the prize money and prestige starts to crank up a few gears. The list of former winners here, including Thomas, McIlroy, and Stenson, are all class acts, and even the anomaly on that list – Chris Kirk – is a four-time PGA TOUR winner who has presented Team USA at the Presidents Cup.
Last year’s top-five consisted of Thomas, Spieth, Leishman, Rahm and Casey, and so really we would say that only the classy types need apply this week.

Top 5 Picks/Odds to Win The Dell Technologies Championship
Top Tier Pick #1:
Justin Thomas (Odds: 11/1, FPPG: 82.6, GPFP: 112.19 Salary: $11,400)
Thomas is the most prolific winner in world golf in the past 12 months, and so has to come into our thinking for any high-profile event like this.
A three-time champion this term, Thomas is defending the Dell Technologies Championship and the FedExCup title; two positions he will not give up on easily. There’s also the chance for him to overtake Dustin Johnson at the top of the world rankings, too.
He may ‘only’ have finished T8 at The Northern Trust last week, but Thomas didn’t shoot a round worse than 69 and ranked inside the top-10 for strokes gained from tee-to-green and around-the-green as well.
JT is the most likely winner, you would argue, in any field he appears in right now, and at a course that suits that feeling is enhanced exponentially.

- SG: Approach – 3rd
Top-Tier Pick #2:
Adam Scott (Odds: 30/1, FPPG: 61.9, GPFP: 57.52 Salary: $9,400)
Adam Scott is in a rich vein of form, and most eye-catchingly he appears to have solved his long-running Achilles heel: his travails with the putter.
The Aussie was as badly affected as anyone by the ban on anchored putters, and clearly his ability to win golf tournaments has been terminally impacted.
But how about this: he finished solo third at the PGA Championship, ranking 14th for Strokes Gained: Putting, and at last week’s The Northern Trust, where he finished T5, Scott ranked numero uno for the same stat.
That, allied to the fact that he’s a former champion at TPC Boston, confirms that he is very much one to beat this week.
Key Stats:
- SG: Approach – 7th
- Greens in Regulation – 7th
- SG: Tee-to-Green – 16th
Mid-Tier Pick #1:
Paul Casey (Odds: 60/1, FPPG: 72.2, GPFP: 77.26 Salary: $7,900)
The Englishman clearly enjoys playing at TPC Boston, with a pair of top-fives in his last two visits.
He will need to arrest some poor form Stateside, with no top-20 on US soil since June, where he finished second at the Travelers Championship, but there is a T16 finish in the European Open on his recent card which could have been much better had he not posted +1 when well in the mix.
As mentioned, quality ball-strikers are key to success at this layout, and so somebody with Casey’s talents simply cannot be overlooked at this kind of price.
A prolific GIR merchant, Casey should enjoy the conditions at TPC Boston once again.

- Scoring Average – 16th
- Par 5 Birdie or Better Leaders – 24th
Mid-Tier Pick #2:
Charley Hoffman (Odds: 125/1, FPPG: 62.4, GPFP: 73.68 Salary: $7,300)
There is something of a need for a good showing from Charley Hoffman this week given that he sits 75th in the FedExCup standings.
At last he has the chance to do so at a layout he is clearly comfortable at. A former winner here in 2010, with another top-five in 2015, clearly this is a stretch that suits.
Four rounds under par at The Northern Trust suggest he is in decent form, too.

- Scoring Average – 50th
- SG: Approach – 64th
- SG: Putting – 75th
Low-Tier Pick:
Adam Hadwin (Odds: 150/1, FPPG: 61.1, GPFP: 55.77 Salary: $6,900)
Ranking second for Strokes Gained: Putting and ninth for SG: Around the Green, Hadwin naturally caught the eye last week.
His -11 score was enough for a share of T11 at The Northern Trust, which was the Canadian’s best performance for a while.
But his consistency, with 20 weekends made in 23 starts, is what has driven him into the FedExCup mix, and on the back of some form in New Jersey we can expect another decent effort this week as well.

- Par 4 Scoring Average – 32nd
- SG: Around the Green – 34th
- SG: Tee to Green – 49th
Sleeper Pick for The Dell Technologies Championship
Kevin Na (Odds: 80/1, FPPG: 68.8, GPFP: 79.82 Salary: $7,400)
There were seven years between Kevin Na’s first and second PGA TOUR titles, so perhaps it is rather optimistic to see him pick up two wins in a matter of weeks.
But the Korean’s form has held up nicely since he took down the Greenbrier Classic in July, with a top-20 in the PGA Championship and T15 last time out at The Northern Trust.
His title win at The Old White TPC was built on a foundation of Strokes Gained: Putting, which continued on the Bentgrass at Ridgewood last week where he ranked third for the same metric.
Key Stats:
- SG: Around the Green – 7th
- Scrambling – 9th
- SG: Putting – 22nd
Alternative Sleeper Pick for The Dell Technologies Championship
Patton Kizzire (Odds: 500/1, FPPG: 55.5, GPFP: 44.42 Salary: $6,400)
Here’s a real shot in the dark….but one not without logic.
Patton Kizzire’s form has been terrible, with four missed cuts in six starts and a best finish of T30. But, there have been signs of life recently.
The two-time winner on Tour this season ranked first for Strokes Gained Approach and tenth for SG: Tee-to-Green at the PGA Championships, and he was seventh for SG: Approach at The Northern Trust last week.
So clearly something is going right in his game, and a lack of pressure off the tee box at TPC Boston may just appeal to Kizzire.
Then, if the flat stick heats up he could make an absolute mockery of his bargain basement price.
