Month 3 of Duffs to Darts. Recapping the goals from the 3rd month and setting goals for month 4. What I found I’ve been doing wrong, what I plan on doing for the next month and a little teaser for something else! #duffstodarts is still going strong!

Duffs to Darts has reached 12 full weeks of practice to the best of my ability all while living the life of a normal suburban dad. Let’s recap what has happened between week 8 (The two month check in) and week 12 (the three month check in) in my pursuit for better golf.

Month Three Recap

My goals for month three where to adjust my diet, log two outside range sessions and if I was lucky go play 9 holes outside.

The diet went extremely well. I didn’t do an actual whole 30 but I cut out all added sugars, I had alcohol one time (my wife and I had a date night) and most importantly I have lost close to 15 lbs. since the start of 2019! Dropping that winter weight like a boss!

Why was this important? I plan on walking most of my rounds in 2019. Cutting the cost of renting a golf cart is money back in my pocket. Not to mention its faster, especially when its cart path only.

I am feeling stronger and more flexible and this should only continue as the weather gets better and I can play more rounds outside. This proved positive when I squeezed in 9 holes just before the end of the month for my first nine of 2019.

I walked the 9 holes in about two hours. I was not fatigued in any way. I felt full of energy and aside from my continued issues off the tee I had a lot of positives.

I hit some really pure shots with my new Sub 70’s and even just missed chipping in for birdie on my first hole. Along with that I hit two of the best shots I have ever hit.

As far as logging two outdoor range sessions go I’m going to take a push on that. I logged one full session outside. I hit about 20 balls before I played 9 holes but the reason I’m taking a push on this is because I played 18 holes in a simulator.

I played TPC Sawgrass and shot a 97. Good thing it was a simulator because I would have lost about a dozen balls in the water if I was there.

I even hit the famous 17th green in one shot! This wasn’t part of my goals for this month, but the opportunity was available, and I jumped on it.

Here’s What Still Needs Work

Trouble off the tee came back in full force on my first round. As frustrating as this was I know can work through this.

I was hitting very straight drives during my range session and I know that I can correct it. What I need to do if the driver is going bad is just club down and go with a three wood. Playing with an ego isn’t going to cut strokes off the handicap.

I also need to spend some real serious time on a true putting green. As much as I have worked on my PuttOUT over the winter, there is nothing that compares to putting on real grass.

Now that the weather is getting better I need to grab that low hanging fruit. Short game is the easiest to practice everyday and I’m starting to see that already with just one round under my belt.

My Month Four Goals

Now that the weather is for the most part, warmer than its been the last three months in the north suburbs of Chi-beria, I can start grinding harder. Here are the goals for month Four.

  • Two outside range sessions. One focused on short game and putting.
  • One focused on just driver as this is a major issue for me.
  • Play 9 Holes with my shot scope.
  • Once a week parking lot practice at work (I’m thinking Fridays).
  • Stretch goal would be to play 18 holes.

As the 2019 golf season has officially kicked off with the start of the Masters the same week as this recap I can only hope to get outside and log more rounds. The most difficult part of Duffs to Darts is the cost to play actual true golf and to find the time.

Nobody said this goal would be easy, but I’m committed to getting to my goal by keeping focused and working hard. As always…..Keep grinding!

Ed started playing golf when he was 18. It started out as a hobby and something he liked to do but by 2014 it had turned into a full blown obsession. Since then Ed has committed himself to improving and learning more about the game. He doesn’t work in the golf industry, he’s not a teaching pro, he’s a guy who just loves the game and enjoys sharing his thoughts with others who share the same passion.
