Clubhouse Stories: Atlantic City Country Club, Birthplace of the Birdie
Atlantic City Country Club // Clubhouse Stories
No Description
In a new series we’re calling “Clubhouse Stories” Mike and I plan to dig up some of golf’s greatest stories from the game’s most legendary clubhouses.
The clubhouse can be thought of as the heart of the golf course. It’s the place where we start our journey onto the course, filled with high expectations of the round ahead.
18 holes later the clubhouse is also there to welcome us back from a grueling battle on the links. At times it’s there to provide consolation in the form of a cold pint to wash away thoughts of the “round that got away.” Other times that very same pint is raised with our playing partners in triumphant celebration.
Truth is, there’s a healthy mix of good and bad memories contained inside the walls of every clubhouse, and we intend to dig up some of those stories.
And what better place to start than Atlantic City Country Club, which features a clubhouse rife with local history and accented with a locker room playing hosts to names like Al Capone, Willie Mays, and Arnold Palmer.
ACCC is also the “Birthplace of the Birdie” as well as a number of other of golf’s famous firsts. For golfers who enjoy a bit of a history lesson with their round, Atlantic City Country Club is a must-visit.
By the way…I’m entirely serious about bringing back the term “bird” and I intend to use it ad nauseam until it catches on. Consider yourself warned.
