Since there are so many moving parts to the golf world and so many opportunities for innovation, there are a lot of new ideas that pop up in the game every year. One of the newest ideas just gained a big investment on “Shark Tank.”

If you aren’t familiar with the show “Shark Tank” it’s a program where multi-millionaires listen to the pitches of different entrepreneurs on their products and decide if they would like to invest in their venture. The “sharks”, as they are called, consist of Kevin O’Leary, Lori Greiner of QVC, Daymond John, Mark Cuban of the Dallas Mavericks, and other guest stars from week-to-week.

On the latest episode, one of the groups that presented was called Golfkicks, a company that is attempting to turn any sneaker into a golf shoe. The idea involves selling kits that include a screw, mounting tools, and cleats. Using those simple parts, anyone is able to screw cleats onto whatever shoe they please and use them on the golf course. It’s actually a great idea that I’m surprised no one has thought of already.

“The problem we tackle is that people are tired of golf shoes. They’re ugly, uncomfortable, expensive,” Golfkicks co-founder Tyler Stuart said during the episode. “We turn ordinary sneakers into extraordinary golf shoes.” Stuart’s partner John Krosky then went on to describe all the types of shoes they’ve seen people use their kits on. “We’ve had people put Golfkicks into thousand-dollar sneakers, flip-flops, and even cowboy boots.”

While this is a really cool and awesome idea, some of the sharks had some issues with the company, especially the evaluation as the two founders were seeking a $300,000 investment for an 8% stake in their company. In the end, it was Greiner and Cuban that showed the most interest, and later with the company decision to take an offer from Mark Cuban of $300,000 for a 13% stake in their company.

With that investment, Golfkicks looks like it is well on its way to challenging the conventional golf shoe companies. If you’d like to check out this product more and even purchase a kit for yourself, check out the Golfkicks website where you can buy a kit for just $32.
