The Memorial Tournament | Fantasy, Betting Odds and Picks I LOVE This Week
We are right back at Muirfield Village, and this time, with an absolutely stacked field. Last week we saw a playoff featuring two of the best ball-strikers on Tour in Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa.
This week, the greatest iron player of all-time returns to competition for the first time since the Genesis Invitational back in February. Tiger Woods, along with Rory Mcilroy, highlight the upgrades this week and will join Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, and Dustin Johnson.
Let’s take a look at some possible fantasy plays this week. (All $ values and betting odds based on DraftKings)
Top Tier
Justin Thomas – $10,900
JT suffered a heartbreaking loss at the hands of Collin Morikawa last Sunday, falling short on the 3rd playoff hole. He took to social media after the round to say that the loss was inexcusable. Justin is a killer, and is very motivated this week. I expect him to be in the last few groups on Sunday.
Collin Morikawa – $10,000
He’s not going to slow down. He obviously showed he has the game to play well at Muirfield Village. He is the model of consistency, as he has more wins on Tour than missed cuts. Collin is a premier ball-striker, and Murifield is all about the second shot. I don’t think the win will distract him from competing again this week
Xander Schauffele – $9,200
He flew a little under the radar at the Workday, but he was able to collect a T14 finish. Xander’s ball striking is pure, and finds green as well as anyone on Tour. Muirfield is easier from the fairway, and Xander keeps his driver straight too.
Middle Tier
Gary Woodland – $8,600
Maybe has the best tempo on Tour, and is in complete control of his golf swing right now. He had a solo 9th place finish at Colonial, and was T5 at the Workday last week. He was 4th in Strokes Gained: Putting, and if he hopes to be in contention this week as well, he’ll need the putter to work again.
Jason Day – $8,000
The Aussie has been struggling recently, but had a strong showing at the Workday. It’s a home course for Day, which may have brought him a comfortable feeling. He made 22 birdies, which ranked 4th in the field, as he was 11th in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green.
Other Picks to Consider
Kevin Streelman – $7,600
Kevin is in great form. A solo 2nd at the Travelers, and backed it up at Muirfield with a T7 in the Workday. This course brings Streelman a lot of confidence, and he’ll look to build on his good form and past results here at the Memorial.
Max Homa – $6,800
This may be a reach. Max missed the cut last week, and has missed 2 others since the break. Before the break, Max was in great form. He seems like he has taken a few steps to become more focused on golf, and not so much social media. It’d be great to see Max get back in contention.
