Adam Scott will be teeing off as part of the International Team in Montreal for this weekend’s Presidents Cup, where he is looking for his first win in the event after more than 20 years of trying.

Prior to participating in the U.S. vs. the world matchup, he spoke with Golfweek about several topics, including the future of the game.

Scott, who is a player director on the PGA Tour’s board of directors, believes the schism that currently exists in men’s pro golf will be repaired, but not any time soon.

The Aussie was blunt:

“I mean, I’d just be throwing a year out there. Realistic? 2027. Optimistic? 2026.”

While Scott said that he believes that a deal will eventually be made between the for-profit PGA Tour Enterprises and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (which controls LIV Golf), he said he is still optimistic about the fortunes of the sport even if a deal doesn’t come to fruition:

“I think whether a deal is done with PIF or not, I see it in a good spot. The market will decide what it wants ultimately. The PGA Tour is still, for sure, the strongest platform, has the strongest players, and even with a competitive other tour out there, I still think that will be OK for pro golf. I think it’s just a time of change and most people don’t like that.”

Even if a deal isn’t made, there has been some softening between the sides, with recent examples being the exhibition match between Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy versus Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau along with the announcement from the PGA of America that LIV Golf members will be eligible for the 2025 Ryder Cup.
