Matt Fitzpatrick had a breakout year in 2022, winning the U.S. Open in June, but his younger brother Alex also had plenty to brag about.

After graduating from Wake Forest in the spring and watching Matt win the major at Brookline, Fitzpatrick debuted on the DP World Tour. After a rough start by missing the cut at the Irish Open, Fitzpatrick logged two top-15 finishes and made five of six cuts to end the 2022 season.

Playing with friends on Friday at Streamsong Resort in central Florida, Fitzpatrick already had a hole-in-one under his belt on the eighth hole of the Red Course, and he found himself lining up a long putt on No. 18 for a 59.

Now, we let the video tell the rest of the story.

The putt just lips out, which is tragic when you think about how he must’ve thought he had a 59 for just a few moments before it was cruelly ripped away from him.

Fitzpatrick had just one word to sum up the situation, “Ouch.”

But as a consolation, the 60 ended up being a new course record, which Streamsong acknowledged.

Despite the heartbreak, that’s a pretty cool accolade for the younger Fitzpatrick to achieve to close a pretty nice 2022 for both he and his brother.
