AWKWARD: Dustin Johnson Does Gender Reveal For Couple In Detroit

Gender reveals have become one of the most popular things to watch on the internet. All future parents seem to be trying to one-up others with the crazy acts that they do to find out if they’re having a little boy or girl.

Gender reveals that have become most popular are the ones that involve sports with future moms and dads hitting some ball that explodes in a blue or pink color to indicate if they’re having a boy or a girl. But celebrity reveals could be the next step in the progression of gender reveals. That’s exactly what happened in Detroit when Dustin Johnson was tasked with doing a gender reveal for a couple of bystanders.

The whole thing took place during the first round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic today when Johnson was walking down the course but suddenly approached two fans at the rope line. That’s when he asked if they wanted to know if they were having a boy or a girl. Stunned and unsure about what just happened, the couple agreed and Johnson pulled out a pink golf ball to indicate that it was a girl.

While this was a great moment for the couple and the PGA TOUR, you can’t help but think it was a bit awkward. The most awkward part of the whole thing was that the couple didn’t even know what was happening. At one point, the woman asked if DJ was sure that he was talking to the right couple. It’s still not completely known who told Johnson to do this, adding even more weirdness to the situation.

While the reveal may have come off as awkward, it’s not like doing something like this is a bad idea for everyone looking to involve a golfer in a major life moment. Justin Thomas helped a man propose to his fiancee at Quail Hollow and that went over well. I think DJ just has to work on his delivery so it doesn’t seem as creepy.

Regardless of public perception, this was a good moment for the PGA TOUR to capture and a special moment for the couple involved. We congratulate them and wish them nothing but happiness with their baby girl.
