BETS: Matchups, Faders, Straight Up Winners, & More // Farmers Insurance Open
In the wise words of Jordan Spieth, Si Woo was shaking it this weekend, as he always does on Pete Dye courses, failing to record a single bogey on the PGA West Stadium course en route to his third PGA TOUR title.
Si Woo Kim was clutch down the stretch, birdieing the capital t TOUGH par 3 17th hole to take the lead, and then subsequently securing the par on the last hole for the 1 shot victory over Patrick Cantlay.
This week, we’re at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. The first two days are split between the North and South courses, and then the weekend is played on the South course, which also happens to be the site of this year’s US Open. Let’s get into some winners.
To Win the Farmers Insurance Open: Corey Conners (+7000)
I talked a little bit about this on the Pin High Podcast episode that comes out on Wednesday, but I love Corey Conners this week, whichever way you want to take him.
Last year, Marc Leishman, a noted fantastic ball striker, won this tournament and I think it could be the same result in 2021. Conners is an elite ball striker who has started to figure out how to piece together his entire game. He was 93rd in SG: Putting this year which is a huge improvement from last season when he was 181st. This improvement has been reflected with his last 5 finishes being T17, T10, T10, T24, T8.
To Finish Top 10 in the Farmers Insurance Open: Jon Rahm (+100)
This seems like a bland pick, but the guy knows how to play here at Torrey Pines. He finished second last year, and I expect him to contend once again. He has top 10 finishes in his last 3 events on TOUR and has struck/putted the ball well in all of them, so I believe he has a clear advantage this week (there’s a reason why he’s the favorite).
Two Matchup Picks
Sung Jae Im (-125) over Brooks Koepka
Gary Woodland (-115) over Talor Gooch
Lock of the Week: Max Homa to Make the Cut (-134)
Each of the last two weeks, the lock of the week has hit. Last week, I had Brian Harman to finish in the top 40, and he finished T8 (is that good?).
This week, we’re going with Max Homa to make the cut at a good value of -134. He’s coming off a great week at the American Express, and I think the kid from Southern California will have another good week here after finishing T9 last year.
We have some great golf ahead of us the next few weeks, be sure to listen or watch this week’s episode of the Pin High Podcast when it drops on Wednesday!
