LET’S MAKE SOME MONEY.

The Golficity Bets weekly column breaking down the storylines and best bets to make you the MOST money are now back for some more action!

This week, we’re at Kapalua in Hawaii at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. Justin Thomas (+800) is the defending champion, but Dustin Johnson takes the honor of being the favorite this week at +650. It’s a smaller field with just 42 players, but that low of odds on DJ shows just how much he has forced Vegas to respect his ability to win a tournament, which he most recently did in his last start at The Masters.

Another intriguing storyline to follow this weekend will be Bryson Dechambeau’s first appearance at Kapalua since he has undergone his incredible body transformation that resulted in him winning his first major this fall at Winged Foot.

He’ll have some wide fairways to work with but is still going to need to have solid iron play if he wants to take down the other 41 champions (or Tour Championship Finalists) in the field. On that note, let’s hop right into this week’s picks.

To Win The Sentry Tournament of Champions: Patrick Cantlay (+1800) and Collin Morikawa (+2500)

I think putting something down on both of these guys comes with a lot of value. Patrick Cantlay, down the stretch of his last few events, was playing very well with his irons (18th in SG: Approach in 2020) and figured something out with the putter when he won the ZOZO.

Morikawa (2nd in SG: Approach in 2020) is the best iron player in the field behind Justin Thomas, and even that is debatable. Cantlay and Morikawa finished solo 4th and T-7th, respectively, at last year’s event, and if they get the putters hot, they will be two guys to watch out for this weekend.

To Finish Top 5 in The Sentry Tournament of Champions: Tony Finau (+400)

The Puerto Rico curse was broken by Viktor Hovland just before the brief Hiatus of the PGA Tour, so Finau might finally win another tournament in 2021. He’s in good form coming off of a T8 at the Mayakoba Classic and his driving, iron play, and putting has always been there.

To Finish Top 10 in The Sentry Tournament of Champions: Sung Jae Im (+275)

This one is interesting. Outside of his impressive T2 at The Masters, Im kind of stumbled after the break due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He finished well at the Tour Championship, but he was only in the position to do that because of his start to the season pre-covid. I do think he has a ton of upside, and he showed he’s turning it around when he tore up Augusta National in November. Maybe Sung Jae Im is just a winter player.  ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Two Matchup Picks

Sebastian Munoz (+110) over Jason Kokrak

Joaquin Niemann (-120) over Billy Horschel

Best Bet: Robert Streb Top 30 (+110)

Coming top 30 in a 42 man field shouldn’t be hard for a guy who won in his last start, and finished T8 in his only other start here. Easy money.

It’ll be interesting to see how 2021 starts and who will start being a guy we target over the next few weeks. Golf is back and in a big way so enjoy seeing the world’s best play this weekend and win some money while you’re at it.
