BREAKING: Brooks Koepka Earns Ridiculous Bonus to Join the LIV Golf Tour
Brooks Koepka is the next name to join the LIV Series, a huge point in the camp for the rival tour.
He is the perfect player to join the series, he seems indifferent towards leaving a legacy, he enjoys himself off the course and the extra money to play in the LIV can fund his hobbies alongside.
Koepka is often frustrated by lots of aspects of the game, he hated slow play, rules officials, and press conferences. So it’s a no brainer. Get paid more money to play less golf. He will give monotonous answers in pressers when asked about the politics of his decision. Besides DJ, he is probably the guy you’d want in front of the microphone as he won’t mess around with long, complicated explanations.
The criticisms of the LIV Series are that the players are past their best, with an older field who haven’t been playing very well, and that the tournaments lack the standards necessary to make it a successful rival tour to the PGA. It is reported by The Telegraph, that Koepka is receiving up to $150 million dollars, similar to Duston Johnson’s deal, to play in the LIV Series, bringing four majors, some form and some youth to the series.
But perhaps it is a good time for Koepka to bow out. He hasn’t won a major since 2019, and despite being the man to beat in the big tournaments, his record in this year’s majors isn’t anything to shout about, with a missed cut at Augusta, A T-55 finishes at Southern Hills, and a weekend 75-77 to finish 55th at the Country Club last week.
He has missed six cuts in the 2021-22 season so far, including the Masters in April. Despite this, he is still in the world’s top 20, and will be one of the favorites to win the upcoming LIV event in Portland, should he tee it up in July.
The LIV Series needs as many young, competitive players as they can get, and World #19 Koepka certainly adds some weight to the rival tour. He’d certainly be a miss at the majors if it transpires that LIV defectors are no longer allowed to participate.
