Bubba Watson Appears to Be Trying to Play His Way Back Into LIV Golf
After finishing in the relegation zone in the 2024 LIV Golf season, it appears that Bubba Watson will now go through the steps to try and get back into the league on merit instead of relying on a loophole to continue as captain of his RangeGoats team.
Watson announced that he will play in the BNI Indonesian Masters next week in Jakarta. This is an Asian Tour event and provides a potential way back into the LIV series.
Watson said in a statement, which was put out by LIV Golf:
“The BNI Indonesian Masters plays a big part in The International Series, which provides a pathway onto the LIV Golf League. I’m a big believer in LIV Golf, and I’m proud of the impact it has had on the game of golf worldwide.”
Told the RangeGoats are still yet to make an official decision on Bubba Watson’s future after his ‘relegation’.
Widely expected he will be back to play in 2025 despite finishing in drop zone. Heading to Asian Tour this month for the Indonesian Masters.https://t.co/OpJosuRNJo

“As everyone knows, I have really enjoyed playing in tournaments overseas and so I am really excited about playing in Indonesia for the first time. I enjoy coming to Asia and soaking in the sights and sounds and also seeing the diverse mixture of players out here.”
LIV clarified its rules before this year’s final individual tournament, stating that team captains were not exempt from being relegated but could be retained for “business reasons.”
At the time, RangeGoats general manager Randell Wells said:
“He’s very disappointed with the way he’s played. He’s had a bad run of 11 tournaments or so and we consider this a slump and not a downturn. We’ve already had realistic discussions about this and his teammates have confidence that he will return to form. Our goal is to be a competitive team.”
While it’s yet to be determined if the two-time Masters winner will retain his spot, it appears that he’s looking to earn it back.
