Charlie Woods Helps Lead High School Golf Team to State Championship

Charlie Woods has plenty of boxes to tick to match his famous father’s accomplishments, but at the age of 14, he has accomplished something Tiger Woods did not.

The younger Woods is a state champion at the high school level.

Charlie Woods was a member of the five-person team that captured the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 1A championship in boys golf on Thursday.

During a rainy week in central Florida, Woods posted scores of 76-78-67 at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., with his father among those in attendance.

While his second round of 78 wasn’t his best, Woods did provide this nice chip-in, followed by a familiar celebration.

Woods attends The Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Fla. His team defeated The First Academy (out of Orlando, Fla.) by one stroke. 

After the win, Woods did talk about what it’s like to have his dad following him on the course.

“We just stay in our own little world,” Charlie said. “I’ll talk about the next tee shot, and he’s like, ‘No. This is the shot we’re going to focus on. Focus up. This is what we’re gonna do.'”

It remains to be seen if we’ll see the two pair up for the third straight year at the PNC Championship in Orlando next month. Tiger Woods hasn’t played since undergoing surgery following the Masters. He said recently that his ankle feels good, but it’s the rest of his leg that hurts as he tries not to overcompensate for his injuries.
