It had all the makings of any high school sports regional competition you’ve ever seen: determined players, fierce competition, and parents cheering on their sons and daughters.

There was just one difference during Florida’s Class 1A, Region 4 championship in Miami Shores on Monday – Tiger Woods watching on from a golf cart.

Woods, who at times was joined by ex-wife Elin Nordgren, cheered on son Charlie Woods as he and his Benjamin School teammates qualified for next week’s state championship tournament.

The younger Woods – a sophomore – and his teammates rallied to finish second in the tournament, giving them an automatic berth into the state tournament, which the team won in 2023

Coach Toby Harbeck told the Palm Beach Post about Woods, who birdied two holes on the back nine to finish at even par:

“He’s tough on himself. If he could just relax and play, store some of that energy, it’s good. He’s just young. He’s got a lot of Dad in him.”

The team was led by senior Pavel Tsar, who shot a 4-under 67 and will be playing at Notre Dame next year.

The state championship takes place Nov. 12-13 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, which is north of Orlando.
