Charlie Woods has stepped onto the course at the U.S. Junior Amateur for the first time, and as one of 264 players in the field, there are major implications at stake.

U.S. Junior Amateur Champions include established professionals like Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Min Woo Lee, and Tiger Woods, and up-and-comers like Nick Dunlap.

Charlie, looking to follow in the footsteps of his father, played his first round today, where he finished +12 for the day:

Charlie was even through three holes, before double-bogeying the Par 3 fourth. He got one back before bogeys and double bogeys on numerous holes throughout his round truly halted his momentum.

Woods is tied for 252nd place and sits 17 shots back of leader Tyler Watts, who shot a -5 65.

Woods had quite the crowd following him and Tiger today as he played his first round at Oakland Hills:

You can’t help but feel for Charlie as he deals with the pressure of expectations because of his last name.

Inspired by the likes of Woods, Palmer, McIlroy, and Koepka, Joey plays over 100 times a year in the South Central Pennsylvania area. When he isn't golfing, he is probably thinking about golfing, but he might be watching other sports, writing, or playing poker.
