Dustin Johnson Believes He Can Win Nine Tournaments in One Year
Golf has some amazing feats that players look to accomplish, from the grand slam of majors to sweeping the World Golf Championship events. One incredible feat, however, isn’t too hard according to Dustin Johnson.
Recently, Johnson was asked if there was anyone on the PGA TOUR that had the ability to tie the record for nine wins in one PGA season. The feat has only been accomplished by two golfers in the history of the PGA TOUR since 1950, Tiger Woods was able to do it in his unbelievable 2000 season and Vijay Singh had a similar historic run in 2004.
As for who Johnson believes has the capability to win those nine tournaments, he didn’t hesitate to throw his own name into the ring. “Obviously I’m going to have to play very good golf,” said DJ, “the guys out here, as you all know, there’s a lot of really good players out here on tour and for me to do that I’m going to have to play some really good golf, but definitely capable of it.”

Johnson is one of the few players on the Tour that I believe could accomplish that tall task. The man is still only 33-years old and he’s been the number one golfer in the world for the better part of the last year. Johnson has the physical capabilities with his power to get himself good looks and also has a bit of a streak going anyway, winning seven tournaments in the past two years.
To make the jump to winning nine in one season, however, is no easy task. In a single PGA TOUR season, there are 47 tournaments that players are eligible to play in. Some of these events, however, overlap with each other and players very rarely end up playing multiple weeks in a row. Accounting for that, Johnson would probably have to win one tournament in every four that he participates in.
Looking at it from purely a numbers game, it seems nearly impossible for this feat to be accomplished again in today’s PGA. But if someone with the talent of Johnson catches fire, anything can happen.
