Steve Jeffs is a golfer over in the United Kingdom who has tried multiple times to break the world record for the fastest hole of golf ever played. Jeffs finally accomplished this task in the fall.

Starting at the tee box, Jeffs took four shots to finish a 500-yard hole this week in just 1 minute and 50 seconds. By making his putt in one try, Jeffs beat the record by a mere 2 seconds.

Jeffs had tried to do this in the past but it is a lot harder than you would think.

According to the rules, to break the world record, the player must complete a hole that is at least 500 yards long. For reference, that’s five football fields or equivalent to about a third of a mile. The only other rule is that the player must finish the hole with the same clubs they started with, assuring they don’t drop a club after a shot and sprint immediately.

Jeffs satisfied the requirements, and Guinness World Records certified his time as the new record.

“The drive was a beautiful long straight drive, I held back on the first sprint and took an extra breath, stood over the second shot, connected and hit a shot to the perfect position, just left of the fairway; sat up in the rough around 40 yards out.” Jeffs described. “Last chance to hit a decent pitch — I did! It landed in front of the green and rolled out to 5 feet past the pin. A simple uphill putt was left, centimeters from the hole, tap in. Done!”

The most amazing part of this whole story is how Jeffs was able to sprint out the 500 yards and then calm himself enough to hit three more beautiful shots without a single hiccup. Knowing me, I certainly wouldn’t be able to run 500 yards total in under two minutes. But for Jeffs, who runs a 6-minute mile and had impeccable conditioning, he made it look simple.

So next time you’re out on the course and come across a 500-yard hole, maybe try to break Jeffs’ new world record. If you can, it may end up being a greater feat than striking at elusive hole-in-one.

Love the rule about having to finish with the same number of clubs you started with.
