After taking a year off, The Open Championship is finally back and will be played at Royal St. George’s Golf Course. And while the other Majors usually bring their own challenges and corresponding equipment modifications, The Open brings, arguably, the most unique changes and, more often than not, special, late season equipment releases. Fortunately, this year is no different:

It’s unclear if this is Callaway’s new JAWS wedge, or a design that will be unique to the Full Toe wedge, but a few players (including reigning U.S. Open Champion Jon Rahm) have been spotted testing the Full Toe JAWS. This should help them get creative at Royal St. George’s, whether that means getting out of a deep bunker or hitting a nippie spinner.

Despite dropping the well-known “AP” naming, the first generation T-Series irons have been a huge success for Titleist, with the T-100, T-200 and T-300 all delivering the goods.

It appears Titleist is looking to keep the momentum going on all fronts by following up the TSi metalwoods with the next generation of the T-100/T-100S, T-200, and T-300, along with the U-500 and U-510 driving irons.

While there isn’t any confirmation about what changes are being made, it is visibly obvious that this isn’t your grandfather’s Titleist, who is clearly incorporating a more futuristic, technology-driven appearance into its newest clubs.

Links golf and driving irons seem to go hand in hand. So it shouldn’t be too surprising that Dustin Johnson was spotted testing a new P790 UDI.

Although not super surprising, this UDI would complete what’s become TaylorMade’s standard driving iron lineup: a DHY variant (a significantly wider-soled, bigger head iron that’s only more “compact” than a hybrid), a SIM UDI (a more “game-improvement” / “distance iron” spin on the driving iron), and the P790 UDI (the most, “better player” geared option, with the least offset and thinnest topline).

Following Phil Mickelson’s victory at Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s Ocean Course, amateurs have been combing through the forums to find the only non-Callaway club that was in The Thrill’s 2021 PGA Championship bag: a TaylorMade “Original One” Mini Driver.

Fortunately, amateurs trying to impersonate the King of Calves can easily by the newest iteration of the mini-driver: the 300 Mini Driver. Currently on sale, the 300 takes heavy styling inspiration from the 20-year old “300” titanium drivers that TaylorMade released, while including plenty of 2021 technology like Twist Face, Thru-Slot Speed Pocket, and a carbon crown to help keep the MOI high and CG low.

Ever since golf became a competitive outlet, nothing brings Eric more joy than a well struck 4 iron. And despite living in NYC, Eric makes it a priority to work on his game and fitness during the week, along with a round or two over the weekend.
