Fantasy Golf Odds, Picks & Predictions for the 2016 Sanderson Farms Championship
The 2016 Sanderson Farms Championship Preview
While all of the top golfers around the globe are heading to China for the WGC-HSBC Champions, the rest of the golf world will have their attention set on the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Mississippi.
This tournament has been a PGA TOUR sanctioned event since 1994, but since the new wraparound season alignment, has been an alternative event to the WGC tournament and will typically feature a rather weak field. The outing was moved to a new venue in 2014 with the Country Club of Jackson taking over the reigns as the players will attempt to overcome the 7,421 yards of par-72 golf.
Regardless of it’s second billing to the WGC-HSBC Champions, the Sanderson Farms Championship will still see plenty of DFS action this week.
The list of names that has won here over the years is certainly not as impressive as what you would see in most events, but, with the big names typically playing elsewhere, the door was opened for lesser know players to make their mark. Last year it was Peter Malnati who did just that with his first career PGA TOUR win as he outlasted Americans William McGirt and David Toms by a single stroke. With the victory, he joined both Nick Taylor (2015) and Chris Kirk (2011) as first-time winners here in recent years. Taylor’s win was rare in the fact that he was the only player from outside of the United States to come in either first or second here since Carl Petterson was the runner-up in 2006.
Kirk gets the nod from Vegas this week and will be joined by the likes of Patton Kizzire, Ian Poulter, and Geoff Ogilvy with odds of 30/1 or better. Poulter will look to get back on track after missing multiple months as a result of a foot injury as he is one of the few well known names in the field.
A slew of veterans with major victories will also be in attendance as six men (David Toms, Angel Cabrera, David Duval, Lucas Glover, Retief Goosen, and Geoff Ogilvy) have combined for seven major wins. After that there will be a large group of Web.Com graduates who aim to get their careers started with a big showing in Jackson.
Daily fantasy can always be enjoyable and this week you will be able to dive a little deeper with some golfers you may have not previously known. That said, in a moment we will feature some players you may or may not know at different price ranges that should give you an edge on the field in this alternative event being played alongside the WGC-HSBC Champions.

The 2016 Sanderson Farms Championship Fantasy Picks
Patton Kizzire – $11,300 – Kizzire and Kirk are both great choices at the two highest price points, but we believe the 30-year-old has more upside and is now coming into his own. He made his name on the Web.Com Tour with two victories in 2015 and then went on to have a very successful first full season at the highest level; finishing 82nd in the FedEx Cup standings after getting to the weekend in 20-of-27 (74%) tournaments. He did not end the year strong with no finishes better than 49th since the beginning of the summer, but did show up in a big way to kick off the new campaign with a runner-up showing in the Safeway Open behind rounds of 64 and 66 with 75% of GIR. He has a lot to offer thanks to his elite putter (0.460 strokes gained putting in 2016, 19th on TOUR) and will be a force in Jackson this week.
Grayson Murray – $10,100 – Murray may have missed his first cut this year, but that should happen less often as he continues to get his feet wet at the highest level. He is coming off a tremendous year on the Web.com Tour where he had eight top-10s in just 17 events played and ranked fourth in driving distance (319.4), first in scoring average (68.62), first in par breakers (28.09%), and first in par five scoring average (4.43). With the weaker field upcoming, the former Arizona State Sun Devil should have his coming out party.
Trey Mullinax – $7,600 – Mullinax does not have a very long track record on the PGA TOUR, starting four times since 2015, but has held his own thus far with three straight made cuts and top-25s in his past two. One of those came just a few weeks ago at the Safeway Open when he opened up his new season with a tie for 22nd; carding three rounds in the 60s while hitting 72.22% of GIR. He earned his first win last year on the Web.com Tour at the Rex Hospital Open where he went 14-under and nailed 76.39% of GIR. Overall he ranked third on the TOUR with a 1.713 putting average and became a threat at all times thanks to an average drive of 318.2 yards (7th on TOUR). There are many new names making starts to their careers, and Mullinax has the talent to outplay any of them.
Mackenzie Hughes – $7,300 – Hughes is yet another graduate of the Web.com TOUR who first made his name in PGA TOUR Canada where he made all 12 cuts with seven top-25s in 2015. Last year he punched his ticket to the PGA TOUR thanks to a victory at the Price Cutter Charity Championship and another two finishes in the top-10. He showed few nerves in the first event of this year, tying for 13th at the Safeway Open thanks to four consecutive sub-70 rounds, and should see similar results with a weaker field coming up.
Chesson Hadley – $7,000 – Hadley is a rarity here as a player who has actually won before on the PGA TOUR, but since that victory he has been less than impressive with just 13 cuts made in his 27 events last year. He did still manage to get into the top-25 four times and showed a little more consistency towards the end of the season with three weekend visits in his last five tournaments. We believe that he is a bounce back candidate in the coming year and will get back to the top-100 of the FedExCup standings. He should be able to regain his confidence with a nice performance at this “alternative” PGA TOUR event.
Steve Marino – $6,700 – After playing in a mere 31 events on the PGA TOUR between 2012-2015, Marino was able to give new life to his career in 2016 as he played in his most tournaments (24) since 2010 and made 13 cuts (54%). He turned three of those weekend visits into top-25s and nearly won his first career event with a runner-up at the Puerto Rico Open; an event with a very similar field to this one. His strength is off the tee where he gained 0.112 strokes on the field (76th on TOUR) and that should bode well on this par-72 course.
